Hey guys, i'm looking to recreate Half-life in a way that has not been done so far... and it will only effect the gameplay.

I'm just not sure if it will work... heres my thought though.

I'm thinking about decompiling the HL1 maps, and only edit the entities used in the map, and then recompile the maps with '-onlyents' selected. This way I can add models, take away, and even add a entirely new gameplay, like bullet-time.. etc..

So what do you guys think? Would it be worth my time?
Who would play it?

One more thing, would the '-onlyents' thing actually work?

You could have anew impossible mod where mobs are everywhere... and then make a contest on who can finish it all. (without cheats) But otherwhise, theres no point in playing the same boring half-life with only a few fixes and stuff. :hecu:

and besides, why remake it anyway. make a new mod with new stuff and places to explore.

You can't decompile Gold-Source maps in a recompilable form - they end up all fucked up and ruined (all blocks are hollow, for instance). You'd have to reconstruct the areas manually.

However, there's probably some mod that will let you modify the entities of existing maps. I know there's RipEnt which lets you modify entity stuff live in-game. Try something like that.

But if you recompile with only -entsonly selected, you should'nt have to recontruct the world. And I don't think RipEnt allows you to add new entities... Plus I want to convert HL over to Spirit.

RipEnt has the -import flag, it'll let you change the entities without recompiling the map.
Plus I want to convert HL over to Spirit.
Ehm, converting what, exactly? Half-Life runs fine in Spirit...

Well, I want to change the gameplay, another words use spirit and a custom .dll to add just that.. Like a bullet-time effect that you actually have unlimited use to, and adding more monsters, and new monsters, perhaps even new weapons... etc.

More monsters and more weapons would be great.

but surely your time would be better invested in making a mod to go with this... atleast you can make maps to suit your gameplay idea - like for bullet-time, have a matrix style fight! :P

I just think it'd be a lot of work, for something that wouldn't be entirely yours.

I like the idea, but it would be better if you did it in Source.

And ripent can add entities, as far as I know.
