Why don't you just install XP then? You just insert the XP CD and follow the instructions. Any 5 year old can do that.

I am sticking to XP until there's a game that can truly take the advantage of DirectX 10.

I've tried Crysis in DirectX 10 mode. Didn't really notice any difference compared to DirectX 9.

yeah, sorry, but the difference between DX9 and 10 is certainly noteworthy.

You sure you have the system to take advantage of it, Masta?

Yeah, you do need a DX10 compatible card. =P
I have one. =] It's lovely I must say.

DX10 is a load of bollocks.

I've played through the entire game on my desktop, with XP running and DX9, of course - with medium details. My desktop has only 768 Megs of RAM, so I didn't experiment to move anything above medium details, only once, when I tried how the game would look like with everything up to the max. The result was...well, a horribly long load time and swap lock-ups. After a few minutes, when everything was in its place, I took a look at the environment - nice. Back to medium settings.

Yesterday I've installed Crysis on my notebook (Pentium Dual-Core 1.6 Ghz, 1,5 Gigs of RAM, AMD Radeon 2600 VGA, Failsta, as mentioned above), since it runs UT3 at playable framerates on high settings, figured I could give it a shot. It runs nice at medium-high settings, so I've again pumped everything up to the max...not playable, but I personally didn't notice any difference, as much as I remember the max settings on XP. It looked the same to me - nice shadows, crisp textures and HDR up the ass.

Maybe there is some slight difference, so I might notice it if I look closer again, but I don't see that big difference between DX9 and 10. I remember, when I bought my Radeon 9550 more than 3 years ago and started up HL2 - now that was visible difference compared to DX8 and my old Geforce 3. :glad:

If you don't have vista, you can still get the DX10 effects if you have the GPU for the job.

There are downloadable setupfiles to replace the old ones which enables DX10 features in DX9, difference is next to 0.
Just google around a bit

Just reinstalled Windows XP, so its very clean.

The photo shows a damaged flame trench at launchpad 39A, Kennedy Space Center. The damage to the flame trench was caused by the exhaust flames of Space Shuttle Discovery, when it launched on mission STS-124 (May 31, 2008).

Bump. August isn't over yet.
Been messing around with a versatile explorer shell replacement called Aston. Everything on the desktop and start menu is highly configurable. Hard to explain, but a fascinating application to say the least. Easy on the resources too, using no more than the standard explorer. That's a new start menu, too. There's no default windows stuff here.

The landscape is actually the wallpaper. The rest is the desktop.

You can make crap look pretty but its still crap :P

That's pretty sweet looking.

I'd only use it on a computer that's for a home theater or something, just to look pretty. Otherwise, it's useless.

Not necessarily useless, just a different interface. In application, its not really any more or less convinient than the default shell.
