Lately my friend's computer has been playing up. Such events include losing internet connection (he had to "install" the internet again, which I don't understand) and now has lost sound. He has tried installing the drivers again but it hasn't worked. System restore hasn't helped either. Specs:

Motherboard: GA-P31-DS3L
Current 'culprit': Realtek HD Audio (on-board)

Realtek HD Audio is displayed with an exclamation mark in device manager.

You need an updated driver or one signed by Microsoft. Reinstalling won't do anything, you've just got the same driver causing the same problems. I used to have the same integrated sound device on my motherboard. Just search for new drivers through the windows update option, it'll usually find a good one automatically. After working for hours finding device drivers for random computers at my school, I know that if it's an option it's usually better to just let your computer figure it out instead of dicking around with individual driver downloads.

Also, figure out who stole his speakers and install version 2.0 of the internet.
