Holy shit! 1.86 cm.
Sorry, I meant 1.86 m not cm.

Holy shit ! The first suspect case has been reported in Romania too !

satchmo, you're a doctor. What is the probability that we, humans, will develop some kind of way to destroy this virus ?( in a natural way, meaning that our immune system will be able to kill the virus)

[EDIT] Just a joke, but the graph is actually true :

We do have oseltamivir currently. It is an anti-viral medication that can attenuate the symptoms of the flu. Whether it can save people from dying is unproven.

Medical science has become far more advanced than at the beginning of the century, but we still don't have effective treatment against the flu.

Here's a news clip about the flu pandemic of 1918.

I thought it's ironic that nursery rhymes tend to focus on death and suffering. The "Ring Around the Rosie" was about the Bubonic Plague, and here's a song that's dedicated to the pandemic flu:

I had a little bird,
Its name was Enza.
I opened the window,
And in-flu-enza.

This isn't the same strain of flu that killed 40 million people.
That's incorrect.

The swine flu is the same flu strain that caused the pandemic of 1918. It's the influenza A, subtype H1N1.

I'm no expert on virology, but I'm positive that there isn't just a single strain of H1N1 that's responsible for everything from seasonal outbreaks to Spanish flu. Viruses mutate, antigenic shifts/drifts can occur.

There are other strains of the H1N1 viruses that cause milder illness, but many scientists suspect that it was the very same strain that was responsible for the pandemic of 1918 that mutated into a swine flu that is mutating back to affect humans today.

So how do the humans escaped that pandemic back in 1918 ?

The virus mutated on its own, and spared the human race.

Approximately 1% of the world's population at the time died from the pandemic flu.

But I would agree that it's not time to panic. Actually, it's never a good time to panic.

We're not at the stage of a lockdown. Just be wary about hanging around really sick people and wash your hands frequently is enough at this time.

This is the statement from the CDC.

If only the "right" 1% of global population was targeted, mankind would be saved from all those douchebags in politics :P

This is not encouraging at all.

So we wait until the virus gets bored again and stops picking on us. Lol.

EDIT: The world's getting a bit overpopulated anyway. We need a good pandemic every now and then.

EDIT: In a way, this flu could save the world.

Hey, there's a report circulating through the news wires saying that one of President Barack Obama's official aids has cached the Swine Flu and now is being blocked to enter the Whit House by the secrete service.

My question is: President Obama just came back from a trip to Mexico a few days ago, who's not to say he himself is not already infected?

Deadly or not, the flu is not fun. Do you enjoy barfing into a bucket 24/7 when you're not sleeping?

I'm pretty sure they checked ;) The incubation period for flu is also generally very short, so he'd probably be sick already.

I already told my mom to stop buying pork meat
I guess you entirely missed the first page where I said that you can't get this from eating pig meat? Oh well, you'll be healthier anyway.

He's just as much of a joke as the last one. Welcome to American politics.

Anywho, I have a cough. OMG! I has swine flu! I is gonna die? Pfft. I'm not gonna waste my time and go to a hospital so they can tell me that I have a mild cold. People are idiots.

Now it really looks like that the swine flu isn't going to be any different from the regular flu.

It's not as virulent as the strain that triggered the pandemic of 1918.

With this new information, there really isn't any reason for alarm then.
