I just got Defraggler to clean out my hard drive. But even after three rounds of defragmentation sessions, my drive is still 49% fragmented.

Why can't it get the job done in one cycle? I just want it to completely defrag my drive, no matter how long it takes.

Does anyone else use Defraggler? Does anyone know the answer to this?

I even searched the official Defraggler forum, but there was no answer to this.

Just to be on the safe side, make sure you have Defraggler's settings set on defragging the whole drive, and not just some folders/files/sectors.

Question: How many partitions do you have making up your C: drive? I might be wrong on this, but if you have more than one partition on your C: drive, then it might be that only one of the partitions is getting defragged and the other is not, which might explain why only about half of your hard drive is getting defragged.

I use defraggler, when I defrag my C drive, I get remaining fragmentation (only about 4% though) and its due to files that can't be defragmented while the computer is running. I've tried searching for a defrag program that can defrag on startup, or something like that, but no luck.

Basically, its shortfall in any defragmentation program, not just defraggler.

Perhaps a screencap of the specific files it cant defrag?

For me, its stuff like cache.db or pagefile.sys

Thanks, but I finally figured it out.

Those fragmented files in red are my system restore points saved by Windows.

Once I deleted all the restore points and defragmented my drive, it's a whole lot better.

Also, if you are still having a bit of trouble, try defragging the free space, then running a full defrag, I just did that on my C drive, and got it from 4% down to 0%

Well, I don't know about other defrag programs, but I do know that Windows built in "Disk Defragmenter" can be setup to start defragging on startup.

You mean before windows starts?

I'm talking about Vista, that's what I have. And what I said about "start defragging on startup", what I really meant was the configureing of Disk Defragmenter's schedule in Windows Vista, like shown here: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/configure-disk-defragmenter-schedule-in-windows-vista/

But hey, don't worry if you don't have Vista or Windows 7, you can still do the same thing on Windows XP, the only thing is, it's going to take a few more steps to pull it off. Here's some step by step instructions for XP: http://tweakhound.com/xp/tasks/sch_defrag.htm
