Does the steam games list only show games you have started downloading/played?
I ask because an extremely kind benefactor offered to gift me a copy of HL, and he wanted me to check that it arrived to my account propely. So, I logged in to web steam, and saw this:

6 games- Okay, looks like I did get it (and another game- I used to have Codename Gordon, but no longer do.)
I wanted to double check, however, because I did have the L4D2 demo for a day at a friend's place. Here's my games list:

Where's HL? Where's The other mystery game? I'd check my games tab, but WEB STEAM DOESNT HAVE ONE. So, to reiterate; Do I have to get on normal steam and start downloading the game to have it show up on the list, or did my benefactor waste $10 by accidentally giving it to someone else?

You need to accept the offer before it'll appear in your list of games. Only then the game will be linked to your account.

Ah, I see. How would I go about doing that? Can it be done via the community tab?

You should've received an email saying you received a gift from someone. It contains a link that'll activate the game for your Steam account.

One wonders what would happen if someone never received said email...

Seems like they could just integrate it with Steam.

Yeah, they probably could.
I'm loading my email now, and hopefully I have one from steam.
EDIT:
If your email client doesn?t support clickable links, simply copy and paste the full text of the links below directly into your Web browser:

To get Steam:

To receive your gift:

Thanks, and enjoy your game!

Great. Fucking great. Where's the damn link?
And I doubt my parents will appreciate me getting a paid-for copy of a game from someone I met online, so I can't save the email.
God dammit.

Wut?

There should be a link right under "To receive your gift:".

What email client are you using?

I don't know, i don't use GMail.

Try accessing the gift through Steam:

Goto Games, Manage gifts & guest passes...
Hopefully your gift is listed there.

Can't get on steam. Still. I don't know what the hell to do...
Has anyone actually gotten a gift and accepted through steam?
EDIT: Do you need to input your password, or just follow the link? Because if you don't need to enter yout pass, I could just forward it to the guy who sent it to me.

So... when I next get on steam, it'll be there, waiting for me to accept, even if I delete the email/wait for a while?

Yes, sending and receiving gifts works fine for me.

As long as you don't need my password/don't email me (Shared account= lots of questions when there's an email from someone noone else knows) I'll do that. Just a sec.

I found the link. It showed up as I was forwarding it. :\ I hate when stuff like that happens. Got it written in a text file, Will take it with me next time I go to a highspeed enabled friend's place (who has steam)
My thanks and apologies to you, Muzz, for your efforts/having to post your email.
Also, thanks to Huntey for posting with some...posting...?
Again, my apologies for wasting your time/effort.
I suck.

In the future when someone wants to gift you a game, try and get online at the same time...if you're both signed into Steam Friends and a game is gifted, it should pop up a dialog box to accept the gift right away. Did this successfully with the L4D2 and Borderlands 4-packs without problems.
