The first wasn't really aimed at the project, but rather the shitstorm following the posting of the thread, which as you can tell, already came.

Second one, was more aimed at the general fact that almost every single mod using this idea has failed horribly, not the mod itself, and as you see in my other post i caught on to the fact that you weren't really trying to make a full port, but rather something a little bit more original\imaginative .

Hello The_(c)Striker! (Although i wish you reffered to me by my formal name, thehalflifedude, as opposed to the =NH=...)

Wait, i have a 'writing style'? :/

Everybody does, but something felt strange reading those lines. So I clicked the name :P.

Well if you do become a part of the team, you'll be able to see we have made some minor steps. We've got a lot of decision making and designing to do before we really get development off the ground though. And unfortunately, we haven't really got concept artists and designers on the team yet!

Explain to me how you are going todo the coast levels without repetitive textures, no displacements and huge open areas?

An open area with loads of triangle-like brushes is going to destory the gldsrc engine.

Anyway good luck, should be interesting.

Jesus, ManlyStump, get your grey matter working.

This. Is. Pointless.
It won't work. Give it up and map a singleplayer map/mappack/mod for HL1 or HL2 instead. It's much more fun and there's less work involved in making one.

Why can't you just accept the fact DEMAKING Half-Life 2 in the GoldSource engine is simply not feasible.

Because you're just being closed-minded. I've never said we're making it absolutely faithful to the original, or even that we're trying to make it as faithful as possible. We're retelling the HL2 story within the means available as of 1998-2000. We haven't even decided how much of it we're going to do. We may just do up to the Red Letter Day section for the novelty of it, meaning gravity gun, vehicles, wide open spaces, needn't matter to us.

He's being more of realist imo.

You could remake some of the starting chapters if you wanted to I guess, but beyond that you would need a massive team of extremely skilled programmers to get the goldsource engine anywhere close to where it would need to be.

But then Grim, it wouldn't be the "1998-2000" [as he says] Gldsrc engine we know of.

For crying out loud, I would rather rip my eyes out then try and recreate HL2 in HL1 format.

Ok, let me give you some extremely objective hindsight.

Once upon a midnight dreary there was a mod named 6D. It had Daubster, TWHL's top programmer, myself on all graphics and mapping, and Grim on the music. Together we were the legion of doom making things awesome. Daubster hit a bunch of snags coding telekinetics and basic physics into HL, ultimately things were far too tricky given the HL code is a pain in the ass in some parts of it. The HL code is balanced very delicately and messing with it, well, if you have played Flat-Life you've probably experienced some nasty glitches and crashes. Myself doing models, I couldn't get new grunt models or scientists working. It was also difficult to map with incomplete code. After 2.5 years, the project fell apart outright and was discontinued. If we couldn't get the simple things working, how are you going to get all of those complicated source things in goldsource.

I see where this is going. I never imagined people being that arrogant. So are you afraid that he will succeed? Will it be a pain in your ass if he succeeds and the mighty creators of 6D failed?

I understand that you first advise him not to do so, but if he doesn't accept that advise and he is very decided then you should encourage him. Fail\Success, you don't know. But you all start a flame war because you are afraid of such a success.
I wish I wouldn't use too much the 'if' word :D.

Moab, for someone who is seemingly offended by this thread, you've posted in it more times than I have! Why are you still here? You've said your piece, time and again, and I've chosen not to listen to you. Deal with it. And if you'd bothered to actually read this thread you'd see that crollo has said he intends to apply in a day or two, so I can't quite follow you when you say my search for new members has failed.

Besides which, I created this thread less than 48 hours ago. Even if it were true that nobody at all was interested, it doesn't mean to say nobody else would be.

I think more so the point is this Striker...

1) It won't work. Not that no one has figured out how to do most this coding, just that in the GoldSource engine, it doesn't tie together and makes things beyond screwy. It just can't happen.

2) Even though we've stated that it won't work, if somehow we entered a fantasy world where it WOULD work, and it was successfully made and finished, who would WANT to play it? Look at it this way:
a.) Primitive Version of Half-Life 2 featuring numerous bugs and glitches, weak graphics, and highly condensed gameplay
b.) The real thing, featuring beautiful graphics, expansive levels, next-to-no bugs, and fully featured including all the levels, gameplay, voices, and such forth.

3) Back to ANYONE that is going to mention Black Mesa again based on what I said. In simplest respect, Black Mesa is turning an dated game from an old man into a beautiful young woman. This project would be the opposite. I'm sure most of us wouldn't like our young beautiful girlfriends turning into wrinkly old men, so why would we want our games to?

Regardless, if this is an endeavor that the OP wishes to pursue, then I wish him and his team good luck, you're going to need it.

As been said a dozen times, it's not a remake of the half life 2 we have.

It's not a remake of the 'real thing', it's what they imagine a sequel to half life would have been if valve didn't take 7 years to make hl2.

But yes, this has become downgraded to flamewars and insults.
