When I was a kid I loved playing games where you drove a car and you shot at other cars, and the goal was either to win the race, or blow up all of the opponents before they finished the race. I especially liked the games where you could upgrade your weapons, cars, engines and shit like that.
Like you'd start with a shitty car and a couple of spikes on the front as a weapon, and you'd go on from there.

Today I had that feeling that I wanted to play some of these old games to bring back the good memories, but to my disappointment I couldn't find any of them around the house, nor could I remember the name of any of them..well except Carmageddon but that wasn't one of my favorites. I mean, I liked it, but it wasn't as good as the others.

So my question to you is, do you know any games which fits the description, so that I maybe can download them go to the store and buy these games with real money.
It'd make a not so old but triggerhappy cow very happy.

The only one I can actually think of off the top of my head is Streets of Sim City. Which isn't good, or fun, or even worth downloading/buying in the least.

I never really had any car games I guess.

The only thing that comes clear to my mind is Carmaggeddon 2 which I actually played before playing Carmageddon 1.

Yeah, there was! I remember trying the beta, but I forgot the name. I'm really bad at remembering names. It was actually pretty good, but it had some serious lag issues. But what I played was only the beta.

Spy Hunter (1983) and Spy Hunter (2001) for Xbox are both fun games. Also, try the Interstate games. Wikipedia has a list of "car shooting games".

I can't decide. Carmageddon1 had a cool style, and as a child I was really amused by those characters screaming at high speed.
Carmageddon2 was very dynamic and made me enjoy it a lot. Later I learned hex-cheating, maximizing the fun I could get.

Blur sort of fits the description.

Well, the Supercars Mod for HL2 might be what you're looking for. It has racing, rockets, opponents and upgrades (no collision damage though)

Otherwise I can agree with some other folks, Vigilante 8 was awesome, Carmageddon 1 and 2 were good, but different. C2 was my favourite but C1 was very stylish in a sick, twisted sort of way.

Flatout 2 is a fun racing game with lots of destruction, but no weapons (unless you count insanity behind the wheel as a weapon)

Blur was sort of lame, in my opinion. I found both Mario Kart and especially Crash Team Racing were a whole lot more fun.

I'm guessing they were talking about Crash Nitro Kart. Naughty Dog was still around to make CTR.

Mashed, if it hasn't already been mentioned. Simple game, and cheap, but damn it was a lot of fun with 4 players.
