So I read WC journal post yesterday, and I then proceeded to go on everyone's favorite online encyclopedia and try to attempt lucidity in sleeping.

Unfortunately seeing as I'm a newbie in this attempt (WC has around 3 or more previous forum posts on dreams), I didn't get such an interesting experience as his was. But I think I was able to achieve the dream/awake state last night. What happened was, when I came to, I saw in front of me these faceless figures. I took a step forward, towards them and at that point I fell off the platform.

I fell and fell through the sky, and I was in fits and desperately wanted to stop falling. I also heard this voice saying "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" in a semi-monotone, but that was probably me, falling. So what I did was, I said COME HERE! and threw a grapple rope at the platform that I fell from. But unfortunately the rope couldn't travel fast enough against the acceleration of my fall, and I failed to stop falling.

I then sought to grow some kind of parakoopa wings so I can stay afloat, but the wings I got were pathetically small and totally unhelpful. Despairing, I resigned to my fate at the bottom, as my senses got overstimulated due to the anticipation of the end of the fall. This sensory over-stimulation/excitement brought about the end of sub-reality.

ENDNOTES

I immediately realized that this dream bears some resemblance to WC's favourite cartoon, although I didn't really know why or how. I also discovered that over-stimulation/excitement of the senses can easily bring a person out of sub-reality. What I want to say now is: everyone, try this for yourself. It is...gnarly, and we all are excited to hear about your experiences as well on this.

Just let us know if you happen to wake up in a cocoon, mmkay? :P

Were you already dreaming when you saw these faceless figures?

So, any tips on how to achieve lucid dreaming for newbies who don't have much time in the day?
The only time I did it, I was (about) 7, and I was too absorbed in attempting to wake up to take advantage of it.

WC, The faceless were part of the dream, I believe.

Jeff, I googled it and got http://www.world-of-lucid-dreaming.com/wake-induced-lucid-dreams.html and wikipedia. They have pretty good procedures.

As for the rest of you guys... too much id.

Thanks.
Also, there's not a better way to fly or breathe underwater unassisted, is there? No, there's not. And I happen to like breathing underwater and flying.
I think I got fairly close last night, but the first time my throat was really dry so I swallowed and it stopped, and the second time my mother began to read in bed, so there was a lot of light and sound coming from the next room, which threw me off.
Oh well, maybe tonight. Or tomorrow. Or on the weekend when I have a chance to sleep in so I can try it after an REM cycle.

Congratulations. You just had a normal dream. Let me talk about my dreams too, so I won't start a new thread.

In the last 2 weeks my emotional condition has been getting worse, since all I hear is about the end of the world, I read too much about nuclear experiments,
and I'm quite stressed in this period.
To add more, I got 3 dreams that were, from my opinion, actually in sequence(I want to mean that they're related).

This summer I had a dream about an atomic bomb exploding at about 100 km from my location, and I felt the intense heat from it without dieing.

These weeks I experienced another 2.
The first was the dream that induced me the feeling that the end is near.
I was in the classroom with me colleagues, when suddenly a bright flash appeared and I knew it was a nuclear bomb. I knew I had no chance of escaping so I just sat on my knees, saying my last prays. I was extremely scared, and felt very bad for all my bad actions and that I wasn't a better person.
Then, the last one... I had it at the beginning of this week I think... I was at my grandmother gathering fruits, when I saw(in detail) a big bomber above me. I immediately knew it was carrying a nuclear bomb. I was hoping not to launch it in this village, but it did. It exploded, and I saw the tremendous force of heat and shockwave coming towards me. I felt fear again, and prepared to die. I then woke up.

And now all the news about 11.10.2010... I'm not saying I'm believing, because I don't. But it's that obsessive thought in my mind "but what if it's true?".

Then we're screwed either way, and we've, as a race, fucked ourselves over bigtime.
It was bound to happen eventually.
