I have had problems with my stupid computer for almost half a year now. It sucks. The problem is, all of a sudden, I did not have internet access. The cord is fine. It is plugged in corectly. I took a labtop and plugged it into the SAME INTERNET CORD for our network. IT worked fine, so therefore it had to be something wrong with the computer (Stupid COmputer!). All of the drivers checked out fine, so I realized it must be a hardware problem. I opened up my computer (Took covering off) and looked around. I then decided it must be a bad Ethernet thing (Forgot name temproaraly, excuse me), So I bought a new one, installed it using the instructions that came with it. I waited, hopingly for it to work. Notin'. I then confirmed that it was a software problem, so I went in deep, trying to kill whatever evil virus plauged my computer. The thing is, it happened sooo suddenly. one hour, it just didn't work. IT happened when I plugged a microphne into the computer (HMmm... DId I jiggle it and ruin it? touch it with staticy fingers?). I found a trogen Horse virus, and took care of it. That couldn't be it. After a few weeks, phone calling special people, doing all kinds of stuff, I gave up. Now, a few months later, I am so aggitated by this pieve of crap that I started back up again. Someone I knew got mad and deleted all the network drivers, and now I can't install a driver. It says that it can't find the disk that is used to install it. I put that disk in. Nothin'. i downloaded a new one off another computer and put it on a new floppy. Nothin'. I did that 2 more times, with different compatable drivers each time. Notin'.

HELP ME!

Backup all your files to a CDRW or something and reinstall windows? Or get a new compo. Alienware has some nice models out....if you're willing to spend 3k that is ;). If not, check into a higher-end Dell, they're nice for around $1300, my new one plays Unreal Tourney 04 at full graphics settings over a 56k modem at smooth speeds with barely any lag :D

Or yea, backup your stuff and format and start from scratch. Even better, do a low-level format using F-DISK running from a DOS floppy.

Yeah - I mean like proper kill-it-all format, remove all the partitions, start from scratch. Just back up what you really have to in order to avoid bringing problems back.

That's a real low level format . They are done in a factory to put mechanical data onto the disk to direct the heads.

This is what a FDISK low-level does. Do not confuse it with a factory low-level!!!

1. Removes data from partitions.
2. Removes file-system sectors
3. Removes partition boundaries
4. Clears the Master Boot Record

So basicly you are starting with an empty disk with no partitions or anything!

Now this is gettin confusing with so many people talkin bout different things. Seventh is talkin bout an fdisk format. not a real lowlevel.

You seem to be an expert with formating, MOP.
Can you tell me what type of formation format.com does?
That's the way I do formating.

All that does it clear the partition. It doesn't do anything else.

I recently formatted and had problems with drivers - make sure you have all the drivers before you format.

O.K, I'll zap it and try to start over. That has been staring me in the face for a while. seeing that something could go horribley, horribley wrong, and I could loose everything, I wanted an alternative. But it is time. I will only save the nessisarys, since some other stuff might be the problem.

Thnks for your help,
Da Brat.
