Err, 7th. I've send you an email already.
Look for an email from TWHLmix@yahoo.com.
Tell me if it's not there and I'll send it again.

Well, I'll send it again.
Please let some space for door at the end of your part, about as big as M_gargantua's.
Because mine starts with a door. :)

I want to join in :) Just explain to me why we have to send the lighting.rad, if you cant compile 10 rooms then you shouldnt be mapping :P.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-13 12:47:55 UTC Post #41022
ya what are you talkng about the lights.rad file just tells RAD.exe what textures emmit light and how much. like Zombie said if you want textures to give out light you have to make sure there texture names are in he lights rad file as well as the color and brightness
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-13 12:59:59 UTC Post #41027
Arr dammit, add me to the list you M.Fs or I'll go even more pirate.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-13 13:39:01 UTC Post #41042
Ok so we dont have to include anything but the map, my bad lol.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-13 13:41:56 UTC Post #41046
but if u fully recompile it and you have adde stuff to the lights.rad you need to pass it on. AND WE SHOULD ALL BE FULLY RECOMPILING IT! DONT PASS IT ON WITHOUT DOING A FULL COMPILE WITHOUT ERRORS!

Whoo, ZeG is back. Go and revive yout 'movie' thread, it died.
I want to join in :) Just explain to me why we have to send the lighting.rad, if you cant compile 10 rooms then you shouldnt be mapping :P .
I'm not sure if someone who talks nonsense like that should be a participant.
He could spoil everything by messing up the lights.rad for example.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-13 15:22:42 UTC Post #41088
Ok, lets put it this way, whats the lights.rad and why do we need to pass it on? Surley if you just keep passing the RMF and doing a full compile it isnt needed. + if you want me to i'll pass it on i was just wondering why you wanted it.

The lights.RAD file is used when compiling to designate Texlights. You need to pass on lights.RAD because it lists all the texlights people have used in mapping and want to be texlighted. There are some custom ones people have added and are not in Valve.RAD so problems would occur and areas that should be lit wouldn't be lit.

Ok, so its the old texture based light that you got when using the worldcraft on the original HL disk. man that sucks and its lazy, use damn light entities lol. Nah its ok, I wont be doing it thu.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-14 10:23:23 UTC Post #41300
Point lights create very ugly lighting.
Since the switchable texturelights there are only very few reasons to use point lights.
7th did you already start mapping?
One more thing for the lights.rad: Do not modify textures that are already in use! This would destroy the lighting of the mappers that built their part before you. If you want a certain texture to emit a different light than it does so far, use a point light or make an invisible brush with an usused texture and add it to the lights.rad.

If you're looking for someone to compile the map, don't only look at the hardware.
There is no real difference between 512mbram/2ghz and 1gbram/3ghz, at least not when compiling. It's more important that the person is very familiar with the compilers.
I have a slow ISDN connection too. It's like 6-8 kb/s downstream. I hate it.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-15 10:44:32 UTC Post #41557
duel 80 gig hard drives, AMD Athlon XP 1600+, 512 DD RAM, ISDN @ 10 Meg's.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-15 12:15:52 UTC Post #41594
Theres a program out there somewhere that can distribute compile sessions over t'internet.

I cant remember what its called, but It is worth looking into, so we can perhaps share the load.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-15 13:51:53 UTC Post #41618
Its called a 'Remote Complie System', Seascape.uk.net has one. It aint worth looking into this, the compilers are dodgey and rarely even sstart.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-15 16:06:27 UTC Post #41652
they have a link to it on tommy14's site.

What country do you 56k people live in? if its America you might be able to get SBCYahoo DSL(256k) its for the same price your paying right now.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-15 20:21:35 UTC Post #41729
You mean the amount of memory you have dosn't effect your compile time?
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-16 03:01:10 UTC Post #41817
Depends on which process. When I was running RAD I noticed its reported memory usage never went over 20MB. Running it -sparse would presumably eat up a lot more and free the CPU a li'l.
Seventh-Monkey Seventh-MonkeyPretty nifty
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-16 09:45:56 UTC Post #41904
It does almost only depend on your RAM. But it'll never be more than 384mb.
Btw, the computer repairshop guy just called and told me that it's done.
I'll get it tomorrow. :) :) :)
So now I can continue mapping on a fast machine. No more waiting until it finished loading, no more crashing because my RAM is sooo little. Whehee!
My TWHLmix part is about 70% finished now.
I hope there'll be a new compo very soon.
/me is so happy

Posted 20 years ago2004-07-17 09:40:30 UTC Post #42274
Ok so are we just passing on the whole RMF file with all of the work from people above us in the list or do we just pass on the one map and then the next person builds on from that? + What can we use in the maps, Weapons, enemies etc.
Posted 20 years ago2004-07-17 10:14:09 UTC Post #42279
from the readme that TWHLmix comes with

IMPORTANT GUIDELINES

1.Make sure you are using the latest version of HL-> Version 1.1.1.0

2.The VERY NEXT THING you do: make sure the last guy sent you a .rmf!
If you don?t use VHE, then I pity you. MAKE SURE IT WORKS!
?If it dosen't, pass it backwards for the last guy to fix, or get
permission to screw with his work and make NECESSARY MODIFICATIONS
?remember to correct the visgroups afterwards. ;)
3.Visgroups: If you don't know what they are, look them up in VHE help.
These keep things nice and neat, and it looks professional if you
visgroup your room with a name like room### when you have finished.
Also, it's a good way of showing what you've done, and where.
So kindly visgroup your precious work when done.
4.Temporary walls: These are brushes that use the texture "PICTURE0"
They are the only thing you have permission right now to delete!
Create these to show the next guy where to start.
For example, You might use them to block off an uncompleted hallway.
Put them in their very own visgroup called "Temporary walls",
so we can find them easily. -VISGROUP!
-Remember this: aaatrigger is for ENTITIES ONLY! Grrr...

5.NECESSARY MODIFICATIONS: Any brush or entity that causes an error is
likely to be DELETED by the next guy, permission or not, if it
irritates them too much. Don't want your work deleted? Simple. Make
sure it works! IF, hypothetically, you DO delete somebody's work,
CONFESS you misconduct below, and you might be shown mercy.
They know what they put there... You can't hide forever...
6.Stealing/"Borrowing": It's ok to re-use objects other people have
made WITHIN THE TWHLMIX MAP COLLECTION. For example, I have included
some nice flaming torches, and it would simply look better if the
next guy just used those, instead of bothering to invent some random
new ones. HOWEVER? Dragging without permission somebody's precious
prefabs into YOUR OWN HLDM, MOD, or whatever, I can only describe as
SICK. I detest the thought of anyone who dares attempt it.
But of course, I needn't worry at TWHL ;)
?KEEP UP THE HIGH STANDARDS, people!
7.Changelevels: If "twhlmix" gets a bit full, a changelevel would be a
good idea. The next map should be called "twhlmixa", and then
"twhlmixb", etc etc. ?in true mapping tradition. OR if you want to
add an entire map(s) for yourself (:D), make sure the change levels
for the START AND END work SEAMLESSLY! ?and include the last
"transition hallway" in a new "twhlmix#" for the next guy. One other
thing? try not to overlap locations so seems like the next map turns
around and plows right through the same place the last one was,
'cause that's just weird.
8.Wads: For simplicity, we will ONLY be using textures from:
Halflife.wad, Xeno.wad, and decals.wad, which everybody has.
-But that's still no excuse to go and make a xen map!
9.rad file: for texture lighting, add ANY texture lights you use to
this file. -acceptable "light" textures ONLY, please.
10.Themes: Stuck for ideas? Build on the guy before you! That way the
rooms will blend nicely, and the whole thing will look MUCH better!
?But, if inspiration hits: at least make the transition
semi-believable, ok? A teleport sprite even?
11.Last but not least: Make a nice contribution, please. It doesn't
matter if you're a n00b or 1337, Nobody's perfect.
Just do your best?. so you can look back and say "Yep, I helped out
with that, and I'm glad I did."
that should explain almost everything
