What do you want to do when you grow up? I want to be either a helicopter pilot, an entrepreneur, or a teacher. Mostly and entrepreneur because I think that of three things (stock market, inheritance, and making your own business) that are the only ways to strike it rich, it is the only reliable one. A teacher just because I want to be incharge of the class, and be the cool teacher, and I have had like 5 dreams where I am flying a helicopter around and I think it is just the coolest thing ever even though I have never actually even been in a helicopter.

1. Architect (sort of an engineer)
2. Programmer (making AI)
3. Starship pilot (but I might have to wait quite a while. I hoped to be the one to go to Mars after a decade or so, but they canceled the mission :-( )

I'm going to be a pilot of one form another, but likely just a fixed-wing private. I've considered the RAF, but I don't think I could cope with the lack of freedom for eight whole years. Don't think I could bring myself to actually shoot at anyone else either. Love to fly a heli though; gunna get me a helicopter lesson for my birthday or something.

Already fly fixed-wing, lucky me :)

Very expensive hobby though; and back to the topic!

I've considered:
  • Carpenter
  • Physicist
  • Programmer
  • Teacher
  • Mechanic
  • Engineer
  • Pilot

Seventh, you missed out on "Leader of Homosexuals against Tony Blair Association," also known as "HATBA."

It's a shame you are the only member of the association though... poor Alex.

I want to be in teh Rangers! Hoo-ah!

I have considered every otehr option, and whiel being a rock star would be cool, there's no way i would ever be allowed to fire an RPG at a group of rag-headed sand n*ggers without being sent to prison.

so as it stands I am just a lowly civil servant, until teh day when teh apocolypse arrives, then i'll be ready1 ready to pick up arms and fight for my dying breath against these f**king infidels who wants to threaten our freedom!!

or i could just be a baker.

/is learning c++ right smegging now!
Posted 20 years ago2004-10-12 09:16:08 UTC Post #65599
PalO, being a programming is a pretty crappy job. Basically you do boring code, then someone higher up gets credit for your work, getting paid much more than you. It would be great if you were coding for something you actually cared about, but the sad fact is that it will probably be for more effecient toilet management systems and so forth.

I'd love to be a writer: really disturbing black comedies and stuff.

Yeha, but they've all been done =P

I just find coding a rather interesting subject, and I'd like to learn it so I can help with all my favourite mods, y'know, ppl always need coders.. and because it's a shitty job there'll always be a position for me to fill =D

yeha, good luck with teh writing, me and a friend tried it once, but it's very hard to get off the ground, writing a screenplay (or do you mean a book?) is a hard thing to do. :o

The plus with writing, is there is 4-6billion peeps in the world nowadays. So even if just 1 percent read, that would mean you would have 4 milion peeps payin to read your book!!
In the world today an average of 1.5 billion peeps read,
there are just under 500million in northamerica; And close to 85-90% read.
Those are good odds! Anyone that has an imagination or is atleast some what intelligent, and wants to grow in life, loves to read so they don't just read 1 book. and besides there are all the talk shows now a days. So u should'nt have a problem gettin to those peeps.
My advice don't stick to one genre of writing, try to mix it up. That way you reach more peeps; thats what I would do atleast good luck

history
factual books
-personal learningstories
-self help
-fiction fantasy science fiction
-adventure
-horror
-mystery/suspense
-scientific books
-world books
-encyclopedia's (if u choose a different avenue in writing, they get paid big bucks to put those encyclo sets together)
and the list goes on..............

I'd like to be a concept artist - its a demanding job, but you should always set yourself a goal in life no matter how far-fetched it may be, it's something I can work to achieve... I mean look at Feng Zhu for instance, now thats what I should be...

Ever since I wanted to be an helicopter pilot, I kinda forgot about wanting to be a teacher... Does anyone here know a site where they have descriptions and stuff of jobs because I am looking for information about different types of helicopter jobs.

When I was in like 3rd grade (thank god my life took a different path) I wanted to be a programmer. 3rd grade! My dad used to be a programer but he got promoted to management. He said that making a program, and then actually seeing it working made you feel like you accomplished something. But I really cannot see sitting in front of a computer all freaking day typing and stuff, it would get really boring unless your making something for yourself that you will use.

I've heard shitty things about programming too. I'm in a white collar factory as it is, but at least I dont have to put free thought into it.
Programming is generally dull stuff which you get no kudos for. Unless as davideo says, you make something you enjoy itll be a pretty shitty life

yeah, if they landed on the moon they didnt do it 1969. Or do you wanna fly to the moon in a Spamcan ?
Posted 20 years ago2004-10-14 06:20:45 UTC Post #66270
Why would they lie?

What have they gained from being the first guys to the moon?

I think before you start looking for things that are wrong with teh footage and teh evidence involved, you should look at why teh US would want to do somethign like that.

Personally I believe it happened.

And I believe, if a country as dilapidated and run-down, and war weary as teh soviet union was, if they could challenge the Americans in a space race, why on earth is it un-feasible taht the yanks actually had better equipment tahn the commies?
Of course it is, American technology was more advanced, they had more money to put into it, they had more scientists, they went to teh moon.

The moon is a metaphor 7th, I can't believe you didn't see that!

The "Moon Landing" is really a similae for an affair Kennedy had with a broomstick.

Back in 1954.

Cold War.
Soviets didnt have money/technology to go even near the moon, usa had lots of money and advanced technology but someday someone realised that its not possible to go to the moon with that time modern technology.
Usa had better technology than Soviets but still Soviets were winning the 'spacerace'.
You can say that Russian Lada* was winning the usas ford mustang** But my point is that nasa didnt go to the moon 1969
