I have it - don't be too pessimistic if you're buying it retail, as there's only about half the load there is normally since about half of purchasers are goin' on Steam.

I've already been playing HL2 for a couple of weeks. One of my contacts in the publication industry got me a review code for HL2. :) Pff, why pay for a game when you can have the review version!

I'm impressed that people still log on TWHL once HL2 is released. I thought everyone would be too busy loading up the Combines with lead.

Yea I have had HL2 since 5:40pm (GMT). Its now... 1:45am and I am pissed off with HL2, I have been playing for about 7/8 hours solid now, I am at prison base place where you get to use ant lions against combine.

I have a complaint about HL2, I had to stop playing for foor, toilet and a drink, when I stood up my legs started kaning! Damn game is so good I have got cramp from playing it so long lol.

Yea it rox. :)

I can see a load of MP race maps sprining up :)

omfg is it just me or does not having a computer that can run hl2 suck!!!

i can play half life 2....only if i look at the ground and only look up to see were im going.

i just got to the first part with the roof top and the damn guys are shooting at you and my comp froze when i looked at them because i saw the blue thing called the sky and it was like ......nope im not good enought to see the damn things that are shooting at me or the sky for that matter.....

just to let you know it runs at 50 fps when i look at the floor and 3 fps when eye level....so it bites but good news is that i can move around a ROOM THAT HAS NO SKY and it runs about 24 to 35 fps but hey when i saw the damn flying things on the Roof top it went from like 26 to -10 fps......

i have a nivida geforce TNT2 something a direct X 6 i think???
a 20 gig HD, a .935 prosseser not even a gig!!!!
um and a 3.1 sound card or 2 speakers and sub.

I cant wait to go to jordans house....DRoollllll he has a server for a computer.

thats all i have to say, hosted CS:S and not its just for HL2 and omg it runs like a black guy in a hunted house!!! (i work a haunted house, no offence to the black people i love'em) so i just hope that he is going to school because i don't have work and yes a full day of hl2 is going to be sweet. :D :D :D :D :D

PS:i hate this POS computer i have right now. :x

To stop pirates. It will, since you need to AUTHENTICATE with Valve before playing. How are pirates gonna get around that? I find it great, no-one can steal my fucking CD key now.

Hows the "Loading" process, Is it run off the same engine as the first, I found that the first halflife was incredibly fast loading... well?
Unbreakable UnbreakableWindows 7.9 Rating!
Posted 20 years ago2004-11-17 09:53:46 UTC Post #73579
Trapt, this is wrong.
It is impossible to create a uncrackable software, unless you don't care about human rights.
All they have to do is find someone who has legal access to the system and is corrupt enough. Or they manage to hack the servers. They've done it before.
There is no way to absolutely protect your digital porducts from pirates.
The most intelligent way is to encourage people to buy the products, by making the buy-version special through goddies, nice packing and a voluminous manual. I would pay up to 20% more for such things.

And again the honest people, who do respect digital property and pay the money to use it, but don't have internet are the ones who are punished.
Posted 20 years ago2004-11-17 11:15:28 UTC Post #73580
The loading process is slower, much slower, since levels are larger and have more shtuff in them. Of course, it's harder to notice on a faster computer.

Trapt, will you ever SHUT THE FUCK UP? All I hear from you is "OMG m0p is teh 1337 stuck up shit". And you? You are an annoying little cunt who should be dead! :)

Now that I have that out of the way, I can play HL2 even on my crappy 1.4GhZ Athlon + GeForce 3 fine. Oh, and FX5200 isnt that great. My GeForce 3 can beat it at performance. You really need a ATi 9800 Pro or better to play HL2 exceptionally well.
m0p m0pIllogical.

Posted 20 years ago2004-11-17 21:04:12 UTC Post #73662
I was holding it in my hand today, but I decided not to pick it up for 3 very good reasons:

1. Cost is $55 US -- kinda pricey right now for me
2. You have to log on to steam to play the SP game?! WTF!!!!
3. It prolly won't run on my computer anyway.

I suppose I'll be forced to buy it once everything on steam goes source, but for now, I can live without it. Screenshots look awsome though.

Dell + Good = OMG CHECKSUM ERROR!

Dell are shit and only complete noobs use em. You don't need a 2800+ to play HL2. If you can read, it plays on a 1.4GhZ Athlon T'bird. :P

The one time I used a Dell, it fucked up and overheated. Opened it up. Cables were a nasty mess. Corners cut in attaching drives. They are really shitty machines. That's why I don't trust prebuilt computers.

M0p: of course you can play HL? on a 1400mhz CPU, but it'll bring about as much fun as with a gf3 and 256mb of ram.
With a 2800+ you should have no problems playing on maximum detail, with the other required hardware, of course.
