load up msn...tools>option>general>look for play a sound.....then next to it says SOUNDS click on that...find the one that says what you want, change it and hey presto!

But you're right. It's necessary to know of the control panel if you're going to deal with windows. I didn't know that the control panel had the sound settings for MSN. I'm going to change them right away.
