Hello!
I'm new to modding Half Life 1/CS, and I'd like to post my first two maps that I've made.

PLEASE tell me what I should improve on/work on to make my maps better.

Oh, and Hi. I'm Mirth Prolan, and I'm kinda new to the whole 'Modding' scene here. Thanks for the tutorials!

Well, a couple o'things:
  • Never use textures from decals.wad
  • Never ever enclose the whole map in a massive box. This will make compile times shoot through the roof and render times in-game rise by far too, making your maps 'laggy'.
-Lights?

I prefer The Tomb. Better layout. Anyway, I'd say just read more tutorials and practise. Best way.

Pretty good for first maps, just remember to use better textures on your next map, I don't know if its my computer, but on the "Octagon" map, the info_player_start is in the middle of glass, so I could not move. Also, fullbright is a no-no :P.

Well, the thing is, I don't know how the lights WORK. I tried putting in lights and all, but they never work (I tried the environment_light or whatever it was, and just plain light. Yes, my computer can handle full graphics.)

I'd really like to learn how to get rid of full-bright and all that, but I'd really need some help. =/

Wait.. Scratch that. Doi, there's a friggin' tutorial right in the Beginner section! I might either A.) Make a New Map or B.) Light 'The Tomb' dramatically.

I'd also like to point out that The Tomb was my first map, and Octagon was my second (I'm not quite fond of it either.)

I might just make a new map and light it. Thanks for the input! :D

check for leaks when it compiles.
If you don't know how to place one go to the white globe sorta tool on the toolbar. click it and then scroll down/filter out "light". and click on the camera box. move it up so its not in the ground and voila, light.

If I where you, (When I was you) I'd go over ever single tutorial, posted on this site, After understanding all the aspects, of simple stuff like the multi-manager, and lights, and leaks, then you will be able to create something great, you did however did pretty good for your first map, but it is a time to advance in knowledge.

Besides you have all the time in the world.
