FAT16 sucks badly btw ;)

Hmm... I think you have to format your HDD then hook it to another operational one and then run some diagnostic programs and after the whole surface of the drive is checked you put it in the right format. (it might take quite a while - my 80GB drive took about 18 hours to complete!)

I think it's also possible to be done fromcommand prompt using a start-up floppy, but I'm not quite sure.

Whatever you do, just don't attempt to re-format your drive before you consult some experts.

It should take only 30-120mins.. :/

The time is dependant on your cpu speed.

Whoa, whoa, guys, wake up here.

You cannot use NTFS under Me by default. Perhaps you could get hacked-up drivers from somewhere, but seems a bad idea. NTFS is for NTx, hence the 'NT' in it :P

PTS, I don't know what you did to make it take that long.

Partitioning and formatting my new 160GB drive entirely, in NTFS, took about ten minutes or something, on an AMD XP 2400+.

fate: Under ME: your best bet from FAT16 is FAT32 ;)

Heh - that too. If you must have windows, go for Win2K Pro. I've had no problems with it so far - but having said that - i don't go on the internet with Win2K...

I recommend XP Pro over 2000 for general use.

I used ScanDisk with the torought option included. From Safe Mode under Windows 98 it takes VERY long time. My brother was spitting fire and brimstone, because he cant live without IRC...

2k Pro > XP Pro. XP is laughably crap. Hmm, if you use Fat 16 it won't take long to format or convert anyway since the maximum partition size in FAT16 is 2gb :P
m0p m0pIllogical.
