I was wondering if any of you guys have seen a gunship from a very close distance, like, if it falls on the ground and you can take good look at it.

And what about fighting the gunships? I think it's quite challenging to fight two gunships at the same time (like in Nova Prospekt and especially at the end, but you can ignore them there).

I keep getting confused trying to figure out whether gunships are biological or not. Anybody have a guess?

When you look at them, they are giant bugs.

AS all combine things are real.

Striders for instance.

They are bugs, But how of course they arent 100% bug, they are modified, with fans, probably a cockpit to i would imagine, and of course the machine gun. when i say fans i mean the massive things keeping them in the air. . And what do you mean alll combine things are real? IEMC?

i think the gun ship is way too organic to be 100% machine. but it isn't completely organic either.

look at one up close in Hammer. theyre like some kind of cyborg creature. pretty weird looking too. and they have like 4 eyes and a machine gun attached to theur mouth or something.

No, gunships don't have pilots.

I believe combine "machines" are like.... organic machines, if you will. They live, they think etc but their skin is made of metal and they have developed mechanical-like biological weapons.

Kind of like machina I guess. Only not machines.

Im pretty sure that the gunships are jst sentient beings with a fan and gun grafted into them.

same with stiders, there just enslaved beings just like every other enemy you face, like the alien_slaves and _grunts from HL1. can't you just pictue them with out the weapons walking around there homeworld before the combine enslaved them. and they don't have metal grafted on, its just like a hard shell, like a turtle shell or a labsters exosceleton.

and dropships seem to be of the same race as the gunships, white silvery skin, flexible body. they just have legs and such that have jets grafted into them and its legs/arms are holding up a canister full of troops. which by the way you can put enough rpg rounds in the can to make the dropship drop it and flee.

The gunships and striders are types of cyborgs, a combination of machine and organic material (or Robocop, if you're into 80's stuff).

And along Highway 17 in Half-Life 2, a gunships crashes right towards the player after it's shot down. That gave me a great chance at examining it up close and personal.

An interesting thing I noticed in my own sp map (which has a gunship) is that even though I didn't check "fade corpse", the remains of the gunship after it's shot down disappeared whenever I'm not looking at it. If the remain is within my VIS section, then it'll stay there forever. But the second I look away, the "corpse" disappears when I turn back.

I wonder whether it's possible to get killed by a gunship that fell out of the sky.

Gartgantua have you ever taken a whack at a gunship with your crowbar? Its metal, dude.
Posted 19 years ago2005-03-14 18:38:28 UTC Post #96877
do you really think the designers care what material they set it as, becasue your really not supposed to hit it with a crowbar. and it probably has some sort of hard scelotong/exosceloton of some sort, which could be explained as the reason for making it metal.

but why the hell am I argueing about this anyway?

Because I can persuade anyone to continue an argument with me.

IMO, they are merely alien creatures that have been infused with combine technology. The combine seen to have a tendency of indfusing things with all their technology. The overwatch soldiers are modified humans, as are the stalkers, so whats to say the striders and gunships arent modified creatures as well?

Hmm, I can't even remember why I started this thread... But yes, you can have a good look at them at Highway 17, you can even ride them up the hill. You step on the rear part and blast the front with your gravity gun. You can steer it by rotating the head thingie. It can slide as fast as a running Combine Soldier. I have some pictures of it, but I'll upload them later.
