Nah, Makarov rulez!

You can buy a gun that fires only blanks and then reconstruct it easlily into a combat handgun! It comes about 3 times less expensive and other than this you get a felony charge!

you can go to www.cheaperthandirt.com and buy assault rifles that are legal because they are missing a firing pin. However, you can buy a firing pin for like 2 bucks at the same store lol. I wonder how many people actually bought them.

What on Earth is with American's and guns? All because of that silly constitutional right, employed, if I remember correctly, as a protective measure against the British.

There's only one thing I can say to that for today:

You guys are so lucky!!!
you can basicaly just walk to a supermarket and buy a gun. down here in australia the gun laws are so bloody slack. it takes 3 months to get a gun licence then it takes another month to get a fukn "permit to accuire". And you cant get any semi-autos or fully-autos. And the government has to be in a good mood to let you buy a pistol. Ive got a rifle but compared to you guys its a piece of shit.
once again, YOU ARE SO LUCKY!!

Move to America then. Personally, Australia's anti-gun laws aren't good enough.

guns arent just for killing people. remember its people that kill people...not guns. a gun is simply a tool that can be used for good or bad. guns are used to hunt and for sport. i personally enjoy sport shooting. dont ask me why it is so fun to shoot at a paper target...it just is. maybe cause its like a game. get near the middle and group your shots well and you feel good about it. it is verey satisfying to blast a clay pidgeon out of the air with a 12 guage. more fun than playing video games :P . plus my dad is a cop and he let me shoot several of his guns. it was fun. :D
Posted 19 years ago2005-03-31 06:58:35 UTC Post #100333
Hunt = Killing.
Killing = Killing.

The people who use it for sport are far and few in-between. Perhaps it's the sense of power that comes with firing a weapon of such destructive power. Video games are another thing, but I wouldn't exactly condone the use of weapons to "hunt", or for casual sport. How do you think accidents happen? School massacres? Bowling for Columbine had a story in it that involved a kid who was about 6 or 7 years old who managed to acquire a handgun stored in his house and fire it at another student.

America has the largest death rate by means of a handgun or similar. What does that say about this so-called tool? A hell of a lot in my opinion.

some people are very stupid with guns. i take gun safety very seriously. as with any sport there are hazards, some more than others. it is very dumb to leave a gun where a kid can get it. same goes with nailguns, torches, matches, circular saws, etc. theyre all tools and they must be treated with respect cause if you abuse their power then that is when accidents happen. a circular saw can easily take off your hand if youre not careful. it can also be used as a weapon. a chainsaw is a tool but it also seems to be a popular murder weapon. it all comes down to what we use it for. some peope use them for bad things and it is them that need to be removed from our society.
Posted 19 years ago2005-03-31 07:58:11 UTC Post #100338
I honestly cannot see a proper, dignified reason why guns are needed. Sure, perhaps you take gun safety seriously, but I bet there are about 200 others who don't.
The thing is, with those tools you mentioned, they aren't seen as weapons. Why? Who wants to see an action hero fending off enemies with a torch? I think entertainment and the media also has a impact on the whole weapons issue: the handgun is seen as the tool (and, let me add, the only tool) to exterminate "forces of evil".
I stand by original comment: that guns merely give the user a sense of power. I also think classifying it as a tool is a way of covering this up. I'm not directly including you HrnyGoat, as you said, you are extremly careful with safety which I'm glad to hear.

Here is a fact. The number of hunting related accidents compared to the number of hunters is very small. So small in fact that hunting is one of the safest sports out there... even safer than ping pong. Its true! The only problem is that hunting accidents are most likely more serious.

I know many people with guns, And by far the majority of them are target shooters and not hunters. Personaly I dont have a problem with hunting as long as you eat what you kill.

I shoot pheasants, foxes, pidgeons, deer..well anything im allowed too really. The fun of it is tracking and stalking, guess it brings us back to the hunter gatherer instinct, all that is shot is always eaten too, but most of what i shoot goes to the rest of the shooters beacuse im not really country folk and i jus like the shooting, but i only shoot what can be given away of course. Ive been trained in rifle and GPMG use by the army so i know all about safety and regulation, its just the hillbilys in america etc that are allowed to get guns so easily without regulation and training that they often end up blowing each other heads off..as far as im concerened, a stupid person should never be alloweed within 50ft of a gun!!

I hate shooting guns. I personally prefer bows. I am dead accurate up to 40 yards (120 feet). Bows take you back to old times better than guns do. Also, hunting with bows prevents suffering, the animals die faster and more clean with an arrow rather than a giant lead shell, so there is less suffering. Bows are safer, proper for all ages, and more natural.
Guns = stupid
Bows = smart
Posted 19 years ago2005-03-31 22:07:42 UTC Post #100453
I really don't think an arrow causes less pain than a bullet.
I mean, it doesn't make a sense - a piece of wood travelling kind of slow, compared to a bullet, making less damage than lead fired at high speed?
Posted 19 years ago2005-03-31 22:23:05 UTC Post #100455
Arrows are not made of wood today. Ultra smooth and straight aluminum or carbon. Not less damage, lot's more damage, but most of the time on medium to small animals it travels right through. They take maybe 10-30 max seconds to pass away. Now you have seen people on the news get shot more than once by guns and still be concious for hours while they are transported to hospitals, imagine how a deer feels. Not to mention that bullets are extremely hot when shot, an arrow actually cools down in flight.
Posted 19 years ago2005-03-31 22:32:54 UTC Post #100456
Although traditional hunters can choose to buy cedar wood arrows, artificial arrows are more common. Arrows are also not slow either. Compound bows 40lb and up can fire an arrow up to speeds of 300 feet per second. Heavier 70lb compunds are like 350, added with the huge mass of an arrow compared to a small bullet, means a very large amount of kinetic energy.

Ok look, I live in a area that has been compared to New York with its crime raite (in size comparison) I have a wife and a 7 month old baby, someone walks through my door with a weapon of ANY KIND Im not looking for peiceful resolve, Im going to empty my clip and piss on their corps while singing a nice little show toon and telling them what a worthless peice of shit they are. Dont get me wrong, I hate the killing of human beings, even animals if they are not killed for food, but I will kill a mother f*^ker if they step through my door with harmfull intent. I think the screening process could be quite a bit more...I walked in, they ran my numbers, I was done in about 30 minutes. You really shouldnt blame america as a whole for the ridiculas behaivior of some. The bulk of us are really good poeple....the rest, worthless peices of shite.....I purchased my gun for sport and protection...I need nothing to feal powerful. :nuts:
