this is almost definately the wrong place for this, but I've been playing half life for about two hours and suddenly it started crashing on a sound effect, then bringing up the error I have in the subject line. Help me out!

^ I do and I will; thanks.

I'm not sure what version, but I bought it from a retailer a week ago. I'm guessing it's the last or latest version.

This page may help, as directed to by Tlax.

I wouldn't bet on you having the latest version. Check the About thing or what-have-you on the menu.

I tried setting the volumes in the middle, still no help there.

Weird. Disable audio effects, if you can, and see whether it still happens.

Still, the question is,
What version of HL?
Do you play through Steam or do you play from a new bought "old" Half-Life cd?
Have you sound problem in others game?
Have you the latest driver to your sound card?
