I like playing HL2 very much and have some ideas for a mod and some maps. So I downloaded the source SDK including Hammer4. But there seems to be a problem with the file vstdlib.dll. I cannot start any of the SDK tools. Always an entry point not found in vstdlib.dll (for example "Q_StrRight"). Maybe it's the wrong versioin of the File? There is an entry point called q_strrchr in vstdlib.dll but for example hammer.dll refers to Q_StrRight in vstdlib.dll.
I even tried to compile a new vstdlib.dll out of the files vstdlib.h and the file located in the folder "vstdlib" (strtools.h, etc..) but this also didn't work.
If someone has a working vstdlib.dll, please send it to me: noackstefan@gmx.de

Try refreshing the SDK contents. Also, validate the game cache (right click, properties). If all else fails, redownload the SDK. The SDK is currently in working order, so I see no reason why that file doesn't work.

That file already existed before I downloaded SDK. I tried downloading SDK again but it didn't change anything. Where exactly should I click to validate the cache?

Right Click the Source SDK option in the main Steam window and go down to Properties. On the Properties box, go to Local Files and hit "Verify integrity of tool cache...". Do that for all the Source games, actually.

Hmm... Hammer still doesn't work. I'll look for another map Editor like QuArK or something...

QuArK doesn't work for Source mapping. Hammer is the only tool you can map for Source with.

They say that you cam make hl2 maps using QuArK:

My mistake. Its not a recommended option though. - Ant

Only problem is you cannot see the models in the editor. Since HL2 is so model based, it's very difficult to do much.
