Now I have my map with lots of custom textures and a few custom decals. Now the decals are set up alright ('{' prefix, the last color in the palette isn't white, the decal is in grayscale).

It also shows up on my map in hammer, although when I load the map in HL, the decal's don't show up.
After a few runs, I've noticed that it writes "Can't find decal "<decal name>" in the console. I've checked the wad and it's there!

So how come my custom decals don't show up? :(

If you want costum decals you'll have to make a minimod with a decals.wad of it's own. People don't like when somebody messes with their stuff.

You can always fake it... Just extract the texture you're trying to put the decal on, put the decal on in photoshop and save it as a new texture... Bothersome and increases filesize considerably, yes but its pretty much the only way

Or, make your decal with a transparent--blue--background, and apply to it's own brush over where you want it, with all the sides nulled but the front face.

It's not exactly what you want, but about as close as you can get without modifying the decals file.
