Many people think bunny hopping is impossible in CS:Source, but this video is convincing.

Does that count as old Quake bunny hopping?

I'm sorry to be such a pessimist, but really, who cares?

It's probably faked anyway.

Some of those camping spots looked real, but I don't believe the bunny hopping...

WTF is bunny hopping?

Don't tell me to watch the video, i have 56k.

Bunny hoping is the infamous sniper avoision technique used in the "golden days" of the original Counter-Strike. It involved you jumping in the air and crouching while in the air in an attempt to make it difficult for a sniperer to aim at you (I think that's what it is anyway).

VALVe removed the "technique" from CS:S.

Well, it can be used for that Ant, but it actually makes the player move a lot faster.

ahh... I remember good ol' bunny hopping...

Reminds me of strafejumping and circlejumping in Quake3 :)

Who remembers Moon Walking in the origional Mario for Nintendo?
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-11 15:28:48 UTC Post #173549
I don't. And can't you just jump normally jump and crouch to avoid sniper bullets. Is there something more to this than just jumping and then crouch in mid-air? And how the hell do they take out pressing buttons, do they just not let you crouch in mid-air?
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-11 15:33:41 UTC Post #173553
I think Bunny hopping is where you jump, then as soon as you land, you jump again, going a lot faster.

So my guess is they tried to put a limit on how often you can jump perhaps? Like wait a second before you can jump again after landing?

I have no idea really, just throwing some ideas around.
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-11 16:05:20 UTC Post #173562
actually, bunning hopping is based on the code where if you jump while strafing, you go faster than just walking forward, so you can jump-strafe-crouch to the side while going forward...

Anyway, Mario:

I forget exactly where, but there is an area, I believe in one of the underground levels with the awesome boogie music, where you can break a certain ammount of bricks, then jump up into a small crack as big Mario, duck in air, and turn to the left. What you get is Mario, standing upright and facing left with the walking animation, going to the right so it resembles moonwalking.

It doesn't gain anything, but its fun to do...

Bunny hopping puts my deadly foot in the enemy's face when he's trying to put a few 5.56 rounds in me. Offcourse a roll along the floor always helps.

im pretty certain that video is faked, bunny hopping is a bug that originates from the QUAKE engine, halflife 2 has a completely different physics engine and thus does not suffer from the problem.

I use to do that endlessly, it's on the second stage i think. It IS moonwalking, he does his forward walking animation, but moves backwards, like a pixelated version of the child-fondler.

bunnyhopping is all about timing.
jobabob your wrong, bhopping isnt a bug - it was put into hl2 on purpose, CS:S was designed to take out bunnyhopping, and aparrently they are removing support for surf soon too.
try bunnyhopping in hl2, you can rack up huge speeds and its been tested you can jump further than 400 units. (official record without bunnyhopping is 249 units)
Penguinboy PenguinboyHaha, I died again!

bunnyhopping wasnt about timing before, scripts would do it for you easily!
its good if it does actually exist then, means my old bunnyhop maps can be recreated

whats surf?

Bunny hopping was a problem when CSS first came out, I know this bug.

You get it to work by jumping down onto a downward slope and then keep jumping, its a bug to do with the player based physics of jumping from a large height and bouncing off a surface.

All those camp spots are real and the video is not faked. I give it... 1 week before every noob out there is bunny hopping on every map.

Ah!! someone else did it!!

heh, I have the game on my PC. I bought a broken cartredge, and got it onto my PC, the broken cartridge is just so that I have the rights to it. It is completely legal.

I'll see if I can take some screenies of it...

surf is jumping of your spawn and starfing down a slide. you fall of the slide you die or go to prison usually. you cant buy weapons in surf maps, they usually lie around. means, the people for skilled at surfing get better weapons. the filter for css is surf_ XXX
You should try it. You gotta strafe against the slope. (xxx is a variable)

What I ment was: I dont like it when bots bunny hop, like in wanted the mod that comes with counter strike where the bots keep bunny hopping even when your a few feet away. :

Bunny hopping in real life will get you dead. Do a side roll out of the way.
Posted 18 years ago2006-04-18 06:17:38 UTC Post #174922
Ummm.....I dont think you would be stupid enough to get in a line of fire in the first place (to roll out of the way).

Its impossible, i tryed it today at serval servers, when you jump your forward speed is reduced. Not in normal HL2 though.
