Well I typ de_overview 1 in the console and nothing happens.
Posted 20 years ago2004-01-02 21:13:21 UTC Post #10258
Try adding a v
Bring up the console again and enter dev_overview 1 then close the console
Does that work, and if not, then I might need to update the tutorial to make it clearer. Let me know if you have any other problems.
Posted 20 years ago2004-01-03 01:20:36 UTC Post #10290
LOL yes I did type dev_overview 1 not de_overview 1.

From the tutorial the overview shows. But unfortunity I was still in the game mode.

I will re-read the tutorial and try it again. I will let you know if it worked :)

Note: not using the steam version... using last updated patched version of the serria version.

You need to run it with -dev -console.

I have the same problem. It's a problem with CS I think. I would greatly appreciate any help with this also.
Posted 20 years ago2004-01-04 20:00:58 UTC Post #10650
Yea

-dev -console is my defaults.

but dev_overview 1 does not work for me.

Those are mine, but I don't care for anything more.
Posted 20 years ago2004-01-04 20:39:24 UTC Post #10669
i also run stuff like -game cstrike or -game target. and maybe use +deathmatch 1

Does this have anything to do with CS 1.6 or Steam or something, because it used to work?
Are you guy's using Steam... or CS 1.6?
Posted 20 years ago2004-01-05 21:43:52 UTC Post #10839
Because nothing will work then.
Posted 20 years ago2004-01-05 22:42:06 UTC Post #10842
I do not use Steam to test or even play my maps. I use CS 1.5 rather than 1.6.

No regular Serria Half-Life and the lateset patch before Steam.
Posted 20 years ago2004-01-07 00:37:32 UTC Post #11018
I downloaded Shotgun Canyon and ran it to create an overview...

I found the problem.
You must be viewing the map in OpenGL.
The dev_overview 1 command will not work in Software Mode.
So, go to your HL start screen, click Configuration>Video>Video Mode and select OpenGL and 1024x768.
Done Done Done and run your map....
That should work.... If your Graphics card will not support this mode, then you won't be able to create overviews.... give your map to someone that can.

Thanx Andy after talking about it in other fourms we figured that it was that I was not using OpenGL. Sorry to freak out everyone. I ran OpenGl and was able to make an overview Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if your gfx doesnt support opengl for a game made in 1996 i would recommend taking it out, burning it and salting the earth in its wake. only then can the healing begin.

OMG I am so frustrated. I have followed all of this. I even went and reinstalled half-life from my old cd because "Dizzy Devil" said

No regular Serria Half-Life and the lateset patch before Steam.

I keep putting in dev_overview 1 and dev_overview 2 and get absolutely nothing. Yes, I am in open GL at 1024x768 and I have tried this in cs1.5, cs1.6, cz, and the old sierra hl with the hl1.1.1.0 update. What am I doing wrong??? I really really want an overview. I would even email the .map file to someone if they felt like they could get it done for me. Help, I'm starting to get desperate.

By the way I did run the map from the start>run> c:sierrahalf-lifehl.exe -dev +mapname and also tried it from the c:sierracounterstrikecstrike.exe -dev +mapname (neither worked) It loads my map but can't get the damn dev_overview 1 or 2 to do squat.

I've got the same problem. I'm using Day of Defeat V1.1 and nothing happens. Game is not online. I'm using the engine to remake a map. I tried to enter -dev and -console in shortcut, but Windows ME does'nt allow it as the Original Half-life and Counterstrike does. So, I typed sv_cheats 1, developer 1 and dev_overview 1 in the console and nothing. I think all I have to do is activate the developer mode, somehow. The console is already active. Is there any other command I'm needing here? What if I use the old HL engine? I can run the map in the original engine. If so, then the commands: developer and dev_overview aren't there! I tried. Any suggestions? :zonked:

I found this link with this note. Tried to find the article. Article not found.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Use of the in-game console is not supported by Activision?. ...

Strange note because there is a console active, but it doesn't allow certain commands.

There's got to be a way to activate the developer mode as developer 1 does not work.

The console commands usually work when you're not in-game, such as activating gl_wireframe. When you open up a game (meaning that you are in the main menu without being in a server or whatever), type in "deathmatch 1; developer 1; sv_cheats 1; dev_overview 1; map [name]".

Wonderfull bump!

IT WORKS! IT WORKS! :P

There's a new problem.

1. These upper and lower black border bars are blocking some of the map...and

2. The neutral flag icons are there.

I tried all the hud_ commands that appeared in the console and nothing worked.

If I can't get rid of them...Corel Draw or Photoshop, I guess. :|
Posted 18 years ago2006-07-15 17:19:45 UTC Post #190225
1. Rofl, people are still using Corel Draw? hah. awsome.

2. Why did you bump this thread? Before i looked at the dates, i though Andy had been posting again

Well, well. I found my own answer to the HUD display.

I was snooping around in the console and found the commands for Day of Defeat V1.1. Not sure if they apply to other engines.

CL_HUD_AMMO 1
CL_HUD_HEALTH 1
CL_HUD_MSGS 2
CL_HUD_OBJECTIVES 1
CL_HUD_OBJTIMER 1
CL_HUD_REINFORCEMENTS 1

Change them to 0 and there will be no HUD displays.

These commands work for player and not spectator mode.

Got another problem though: it's the ZOOM.

Zoom is set 2X and I need 1X to match standard minimaps.

How to zoom to 1X at 1024 x 768??? What's the command??? Haven't found it yet.

Why the hell are you playing v1.1 anyway?
