Yes I know the constant texture is a mapping sin, but I want your advice on anything I should add to the DM map (btw its for HL1 DM)

I don't know how to get the image source but check the VHE screenie through this link http://www.freewebs.com/flyingduck/screenshotpage.htm

As you can see the octagons are made from triangles, i was going to make them go up in a step formation but I got side-tracked

Why oh why are they made of triangles? And another thing, all of those brushes are touching, meaning that lot is going to be cut to buggery and whack the compile time right up.

Anyway, a few more details on the map?

I was going to separate the triangles to make the map more interesting, but that idea might be scrapped, i dunno yet.

Ok, it has:

5 spawns
a Gauss gun
a RPG launcher
a 9mm AR
a Crossbow
Hand Grenades
and a large 'drowning' trigger_hurt at the bottom as it is set in space (using the neb7 skyname).

your avatar was burning my eyes so i couldn't read the text :>
Ok and about that map of yours. Don't you think that it isn't very good to have a map with no places to hide. If i'd have a gauss gun and a crossbow noone would stand a chance of even moving in there. You just find a perfect place to shot everybody. There wouldn't be much fun would it?

very good point. I'm changing the triangles to whole cylinders now,so i can change the weapons too, and add some cover.

(argh double post)

Um i've got a 375 in there as well..should i change or keep?

Ok the map has been updated (should be ready for upload later on in the day).

New stuff:

The triangles (NEVER AGAIN) have been changed to cylinders
New bits have been added for cover, such as a desk to hide under. I was thinking of theming the different octagons, so it's like a jumble of all the HL chapters so the cover doesn't seem so out of place.

See the above link for the new screen.

Instead of using triangles or cylinders, you can clip the edges off brushes. Probably more workable than cylinders.

Anyway, that those brushes all touch doesn't matter much - it's still a pretty simple map for the VIS process by the looks of it.
What I believe is a problem with this map, a gameplay problem, is that there's little flow throughout. All octagons are finally connected to a single spot, with little connections between them. How are you supposed to run happily through the map if there's just one route to take - and you'll always meet your opponents at the same spot? Looks too predictable and restricting to me. If you change that, the map might become much more fun to play.

Keep it up! :)

ty i'll do that

I just tried compiling the map, I might get rid of a few bits becuase VHE crashed. :(

Right, unfortunately my pc decided it doesn't like VIS anymore, so Octageddon only has RAD, so it will be laggy.

Downloadable now!

I really like the idea of theming each area like the chapters of half-life.

You need more in them though, not just prefabs that came with VHE, like for the first chapter you could have computers that you can blow up and shoot or the Anti-Mass Spectrometer machine bottom, where the crystal goes. This gives me an awesome idea for a map...

Argh.. I just uploaded the map..

I'll use the idea for another DM, if this one is popular
