it says that XSI is free. i have downloaded but i cannot get an activation key because i apparently have to buy it?
can someone please help?

When you open SDK in steam, there is a link for XSI. dl it, get the activation key by mail by filling out the forms online. The site should have a link for applying for the free key. Trust me its there. Look harder.

It is hard to find...Stupid people need to make it more obvious.

that part of the site obviously doesnt exist anymore, anyone know where i can get an activiation code?

When you started XSI, did you do a file/save first and did you get a registration dialog to get your activation key by email?

i got a dialog, no way of getting an activation key by email, you that link

1. If you messed around in XSI before you did your first file/save, the activation may not occur. You may need to reinstall. Follow the instructions in the XSI portion of the Source modeling setup tutorial on this site.

2. If that doesn't work, you may find some help in the forums at softimage.com.

problem sovled, crisis over, ive got it sorted now,

and now to learn to use it!

So give us all some experience and let us know what the problem was and how it was resolved!

when you load up XSI, you get a box up with tutorials and other links, in the center it says about setting up XSI, part one says about registering and activating XSI, follow that link and voila
