Apparently the PS3, the people who won't have some big revolution, have added a motion sensore onl their controller. I don't see what their deal with copying people is. They did the same thing to Nintendo, when they came out with analog sticks and rumble feature. They also announced points, like the 360's market place, where you can buy updates and other things. Remeber, these are the people who have said that they wouldn't be caught up in trying to revolutionize their system, that they would just concentrate on games....

Is it copying? Or simply making their console top of the line with all of the features that the competitors have and then some.

well the good thing is, that if you get pissed at any ps3 game and chuck the controller, it'll come right back to you.

It's copying. Dustbunny is correct. Sony "copied" the idea for a rumbling controller (i.e. the dualshock) and the mini joystick from Nintendo. Unlike Nintendo, they decided to use the technology without credited the people who originally created the rumble technology and thus got into shit for it.

Ubisoft has slammed Sony for their "copycat" antics. I'd have to agree really: the PS3 controller has a similar "Home" button like the Xbox 360 controller and also features gyroscopes. Even though its less advanced than the Wii's, its still a blatant attempt to steal some of Ninty's thunder.

Edit: It's no longer a boomerang. Its a redesigned Dual-Shock essentially, from what I've heard.

the PS3 and Sony have copied ideas in the past yes, but they do it so damn well. They take ideas like the joystick and rumble and make it better. In my opinion...they are also introducing some new things like the blue ray disks though..cant wait for the PS3, the games look sweet, graphics for them even better. Dont really see why they have the gyro stuff in the controller (looks like a gimic) but oh well, glad its not a boomerang anyways, watched the E3 conference and now Im excited for the release.

I don't like consoles anyway... I wouldn't get a console unless it and like 50 games for it were free...

hey, i dont think its copying if they cant get done for it, wats wrong with 'taking' all the good points from other consoles, to create the ultimate console with everything. That sensor thing would be great for like flying games, etc, and who really cares bout dual-shock?! also, although its similar to Wii, it is in theory a completely different system, and it works in a different way. personally i say go for it, - they chose to hold ps3 back past xbox, and now they're making up for it

Motion sensor is nothing new either. There were a few third-party controllers released back in the day of the Nintendo 64.

Wow, Sony is Pathetic, everything they touch, dies. Mainly Everquest, and their changes to the PS*. It took no creativity to make this new console, it is no better than PS2 in my eyes.. Even the controller hasn't changed.

What console do you like best? The xbox? Their new console is worse than the PS3, the graphics so far dont touch the demos for PS3, the controller is the same too...only thing they have going for them is the Xbox Live and if Sony has something similar then they might fail on that too (the next dreamcast)

I'd be you like everyone else loves Nintendo? Right? Well lets look, ever console that Nintendo has created has more or less failed once the other two were out...sure they change their controller each release but people dont care about little things like that they like graphics and games. As well as familiarity, the PS3 has the same controller, that makes me happy, I like that controller and wouldnt want them to change it at all. So if we're all going to burn sony maybe we should make threads about the other two major ones because they all have their problems too

All valid points, and I dont have the energy to argue them, but I want to say that I dont like the 360 either.. that one seems just like its predecessor. There are only a few reasons why I like the Wii, and they are because of the controller, Zelda, and Mario. And yes, Nintendo always seems to fail when the new systems come out, but this time they have the better idea, and they aren't just cloning their previous system with better graphics. I hereby resign from this thread because of sheer lack of energy, and time.

Wow The PS3 is going to be 600 dollars! After seeing Halo 3 and the almost complete Gears of War, I would say 360 is better, or at least the same. The only difference is 360 is 100 dollars less with a Hard drive!

Wii and 360 are the only ones im getting. Sony sucks

360 will be the next dreamcast, released too early, sony will come out and dominate, the price will drop in early 07 and everyone will buy one. I dont much care if they copied Nintendo, at least it will be a controller not a remote...and 100 dollars less is because the PS3's hardware is more advanced and yes they do come with harddrive, the $600 one is 60gb and the $500 one is 20gb. I think your forgetting that without the Playstation Xbox probably wouldnt have come out (or at least not as fast) and technology would still be way behind. Make sure you know what your talking about fully before you go talking about a company like that.

I personally have nothing against the XBOX or the Wii, right now they are all equal to me...but I cant stand it when people try to talk $#!% about the PS3 when they dont know what it will be like

Face it, the PS3 will flop. It offers nothing new, nothing breaking new grounds, it's just the PS2 with better HW and a motion-sensored controller. Why would you even consider buying it?
When the PS3 is released, X360 will already have dropped in price, and Wii will (hopefull) have been released, sweeping the floor with both consoles (yay!) - honestly, console gaming isn't about the hardware, it's about the feel.

I've still a grudge against Sony for their infested CD releases and obvious leeching off of other companies, not to mention with Ericsson.

$500 or 600 is way too much for a console. The average-joe peep wouldn't afford it without rich parents . The revolution, I think, will be released at around 200?, which is a very fair price. I will totally buy it.

I think the Wii will convince the intelligent gamers amongst us that this is the new way to go for gaming. I'll take my PC for hardcore graphics, but I'll take my Wii for some good fun. Plain and simple.

Yet another console generation I can skip on. The increase of the PS3 price is not on par with the graphical improvement. I have seen some videos (for all three consoles) and none of them are really impressive.
I have some friends who are huge Nintendo fans, so I'll get to play the dozen or so decent games that they'll make. I wonder what the next Mario Party will be like. Probably fun with the new controller.

The first time I saw a game for Playstation1, I had been playing Sonic & Knuckles in my old Sega Genesis the previous day. The feeling of awe when I played the first levels of Tomb Raider is something that I haven't and will never experience again.
Each time it seems the graphical leap is less! Nintendo64 was a huge step over the 2D SNES. Gamecube was a big leap over N64, but not as much. Wii, after the videos I've seen, is even a smaller technical leap over GC. The same happened with Sega, Sony and now Microsoft...

Does anyone remember when Sony talked about the ultra 1337 "Emotion Engine"? Too many false promises. I lost my faith in consoles long ago

The reason the graphical leap is less (to us) is because being mad mappers and the pc enthusiests we are, we see the evolution of graphics as new games come and go. With strictly console users, the difference in graphics is limited to the engines power, so someone using a X-Box would definately see the difference on an X-Box 360. The difference IS quite great, we've just seen it enough that it doesn't impress us anymore, but it is quite a step forward if you stop and think about it.

What I mean is that going from 2D from 3D was a huge leap, while the difference now is just some shaders and more polygons. I compared the Project Gotham videos from the Xbox and Xbox 360 videos, and you couldn't really tell the difference unless you were seeing the console itself. This situation would be impossible with a SNES and a N64 game, for example.

Kasperg, have you seen the ingame Halo 3 trailer and the ingame NEW Gears of War trailer? They seem to implement the power of the 360 much more than any game out there. You cant watch both of those and then tell me that its only a minor improvement.

I think it WAS a matter of game developers not taking full advantage of 360's hardware.

Yes, that is true with EVERY console that's ever been released. The the X-Box is getting games that look more and more impressive for it's age. Anyone who's played Far Cry: Instincts will know those type of graphics were'nt around when the X-Box was first released. Look at the Game-cube, Super-Smash Bro's looks absolutely ludacris compared to other more recent GC titles.

I agree. Developers don't always do the best job when they are rushed (quake4 framerates anyone?). I guess it will take some time for good games to come out.
Even so, the best games of the dying generation (I'm thinking the last Resident Evils, Shadow of the Colossus etc) are nothing like what they had promised years ago. In fact, when I first heard about the Sega Dreamcast, I expected graphics like the 360 shows now, not PC-like graphics. I didn't know much about hardware back then, but I was still upset

Who saw the New Super Smash bros? Wario, metaknight, Samus without her suit, the one person from Kid Icarus i think, and Solid Snake.... Can't wait to see the unlockables.

The only thing that really ticks me off about the PS3, is that they said they wern't going to do anything, just focus on games. Then they go and do that. I have a PS2, got it for last Christmas, The only games I play are Guitar Hero, and Soul Calibur 3, Transformers was also pretty good.
