Whoa, Arcan, that's really ugly. And, link to the JPG itself, not the damn placeholder.

Anyway, why is everyone using huge resolutions these days? 1900x1200... that's crazy. I'm still with 1280x1024.

Ive always kept mine at 1024 by 768. If I change it to any higher when I play FEAR I get FPS of like 20-29 :(
Posted 17 years ago2006-05-13 18:32:21 UTC Post #179859
I run my desktop at 1900X1200, but resolution settings for all my games are set to 1024x768, for much better performance too.

Zombie: Once you get used to the smaller size, it's impossible to go bigger again. When I try to use my old computer whose video max is 1024x768, I can barely use it I'm so disgusted :P!

Jeez, how many times do I have to tell you!?

Rowley: 1600x1200 and above = Too tiny icons. I mean, they're hardly readable.
Pepper: Appauling, who needs that many desktop icons?

I love these threads, they always make me clean up my desktop a little.

Kind of lame background, but as long as it inspires me to start mapping, that's all I care about. At least I took the photo myself.

Higher screen resolution != smaller icons or smaller text. All you need to do is to config the icons and text so it gets bigger.
Higher screen resolution == clearer screen (well, that and response time and frequency ;) ), fully support for higher res wallpapers and icons. I run it at 1280x1024 which is the max my crappy graphic card can do. Ive tried emulating it to 2000something x something, but seems kinda pointless, cause my computer probably wouldn't be able to handle that kind of wallpapers (pluss resolution emulating sucks donkey's willy wonka)

In KDE, and most likely in GNOME aswell (haven't really tried), when you crack up the res icons and stuff will be automatically resized to look the same, just smooooth ;)
Though im more of a console person when it comes to linux and doesn't really use any X GUI at all. :P (except for BlackBox sometimes, for solitaire when im bored)

Hunter, there is no reason to have a higher resolution. Especialy not on a triple screen set-up, besides i only have 4 17inch CRT monitors here so there's not much space left for anything bigger(except buying it all in flatscreen).

HAH!!!

It looks much neater if you spread it over both screens pepper ;)

Heaps of junk on there atm...I basically leave zipped/rared maps to rot on it :D

Doodle,

Someapplications put all my icons back in the square again because i execute them in fullscreen. Quite annoying but there's nothing i can do about it.

Yeah, I know. Commit charge is some measure of memory usage. 96% is fairly clearly bad.
