This is my first Gmod comic :)

link

Comments?

Note: Converting it to jpeg took down the quality a little bit.
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-20 12:20:38 UTC Post #186065
Hmm well my first suggestion is download Gimp to convert to 100 jpg.

Second is you use the console command to remove the text on the right hand corner.

Third is perhaps make a more interesting storyline.

Ok I guess but I might as well say for everyone: How many comics does TWHL need!?

as many as possible.

interesting halo4life.

use buff my pylon next time and get gimp to do text and encode in in higher quality jpeg

People can make as many comics as they want, aslong as people give them helpful tips on how to better them or actuall decent remarks, i have no problem!

halo4life: Better posing and image quality is really needed, borders, and smooth text for instance. Look at Ansith's thread when he wanted to learn about comics, there's some really helpful hints in there. :)

Also, its not particularly funny... Kinda hard to keep up with the storyline...

And dont make comics on gm_construct. ever.

It sucked :( He was happy and that was cool... But nah, not that good... And i like comics in gm_construct :) And yeah, convert it to PNG and not JPG.
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-20 12:42:46 UTC Post #186070
that's horrible.

don't make any more
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-20 12:43:49 UTC Post #186071
Thanks for all the comments! I'll try and do better next time. And I've seen funny comics in gm_construct.

Heres a better quality one: http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/4455/gmod5zo.jpg

If I convert to png it will be to big to upload.

Give the guy half a chance! It's his first! He CAN improve if you give him some constructive criticism.

Thanks Strider. If you all want I can finish my second comic and upload it. But it has horrible posing.
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-20 12:50:23 UTC Post #186076
Well, you could use it to practice your speech bubbles and whatnot. What program are you using to edit the images?

Do not use MSpaint. Ever.
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-20 13:03:33 UTC Post #186080
and its still very low quality. It looks like you took the first one and rejpgd it. which won't do you any good
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-20 13:20:02 UTC Post #186082
I took the bmp version and converted it into a high quality jpeg with the program Habboi mentioned.

Just because my first comic was bad doesn't mean my tenth will. Why should I stop?

Hahaahahahahahaha

:P

Why 6? 7 or CS2 ftw.

As for the comic, it's pretty... err... bland. I mean, pretty crappy posing, awful plot, and I have no clue what's going on when the car suddenly flies away.

Exactly, if some newbie posts a cruddy map, you don't just send him packing.

Meh, i get it discount cos my dad's a media/computing teacher so, pfft.
Why 6? 7 or CS2 ftw.
As with Star Trek films, all odd-numbered photoshops are shit.
I havent tried CS2..

6 doesn't even have any proper filter effects. You haven't even tried 7, yeah?
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-20 13:40:52 UTC Post #186099
i've tried 7, yes.

The car flew away because it was hit by the combine car.

People who know their first 50 maps will be shit and should never be seen by anyone are the best mappers

Photoshop costs $800 or something crazy like that. Just download it, jeez.
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-20 15:59:25 UTC Post #186122
all your paying for in the new versions are a few weird features you'll never use and some fancy filters that you can easily replicate with brushes. bug fixes too i bet.

other than that, most photoshops are the same.

Nice comic BTW, i think it would be better if you used nothgin but emotes for dialogue. seems that way anyhow.

Yes, but you shouldn't use 6. I used both CS and 7 ME(I lost my CS disc(or files, not sure I had a disc :badass: ) and pormated my computer) and they are very good.

If you really like I still have 5.5 somewhere... can save you those 20$... :P

No, people who post their first map to see peoples opinions on how they can make it better are the best mappers.

your first map is usually either a boxed mess or an attempt at making zomg cs_dust3!1

Comic totally sucked ass, but nowhere near as much as Jimmi's.

Thank Jesus I ahem 'bought' PSP 7.0...
Ok Gimp will do for resizing jobs etc but if you want to make professional comics then use PSP...You've let yourself enter a difficult and timeusing hobby so if you think you are able to spend an hour or so (maybe more) working on a comic then may I suggest you go on Zombie's website for comic tips and we'll see from there.

Are there preset speech bubbles in GIMP2? btw I uninstalled GIMP and installed Photoshop 6.0

why would you want pre-made ones? they're easy to make.

I know, I was just curious. If they looked better than the ones I could make, I would use them.

i love photoshop for so many reasons including

1) awsome and plentiful online tutorials

2) the liquify tool

3) the ability to create custom fill patterns and brushes with ease

4) the feather tool.

5) the cloning tool

Adobe photoshop is more userfriendly and has a huge (much bigger than GIMP will ever have, believe me) tutorial database.

Preset speech bubbles?

I don't see any reason for me to use Photoshop. It's free, that's it's only perk, and there are ways of getting around that.

I'm starting a new comic. heres the first issue: http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e55/halo4life2193/GmansLife.jpg

Please try to ignore the crappy quality, I'll fix that later. If you don't like it, just tell me how I can improve.

Here is my 3rd comic. Gman's Life #2. Its a huge improvement from the others. I actually resized and converted the images in Photoshop! :) Oh, and sorry, I forgot dont_buff_my_pylon 1.

Edit: You should read the first Gman's Life so you know whats going on.
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-24 15:29:12 UTC Post #186728
please, stop, please :(

terrible compression again, try reducing the image size and lowering the compression ratio and chrominance to 1:1:1

the posing is really poor, especially in the last two frames

go look how speech bubbles are done in a proper comic and fgs ANTIALIAS THEM!

please tell me how the first comic fits into this one
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-25 19:22:10 UTC Post #186866
wtf is wrong with posing?

wtf is wrong with the speech bubbles?

wtf is wrong with quality? I thought I did good on quality.

wtf? The first Gman's Life fits in perfectly with this one.

Sorry to revive this thread. I was away yesterday. Can we just close it now?
Posted 17 years ago2006-06-25 19:57:08 UTC Post #186871
You could have made the second one a bit more funny. Instead of the Gman's job is staring at computers, make it staring at people... but thats a bit old... isn't it?
