I summon thee, gods of mapping, to answer my pleas... This is the problem:
-After all night compiling I went to sleep and when I woke up I ran to see the results of my compiling only to find thousands of "Too many direct lightstyles on a face (?, ?, ?)" problems and a Windows? window with an "Out of Memory" message for me. Results: no compiling, seems RAD got screwed up. I know about the direct lightstyles problem but these three "?" annoy me. Also is the first time I see this Windows error.
The rmf size is 6mb and takes around 5 hours after this error. Can you help me?.
Thanks.

Well, correct it if you know what the problem is. This destroyed my first ever serious map, with the bloody question marks. I also got an exclamation saying "out of memory error" or something - can't remember exactly, it was nigh on a year ago.

i just bit the bullet and removed all but the most essential light styles, trying to arrange it so that the lights only fall on certain faces is almost impossible

a) WRITE THE PROBLEM IN THE TOPIC TITLE
b) This has been covered before, use the search tool in future please
c) Increase your pagefile size manually, or if you have no disk space left, free some! You tend to need a few gig or so for complicated compilations
d) Don't you dare quote the last two words of c 7th ;)

ok let me try remember for win 98...Right Click my computer and go to Properties and a new window will pop up. This window shows stats for ur computer stuff like that. Now search the tabs on that window. In one of those tabs will be an option to set Virtual Memory. Virtual Memory is a portion of the hard-drive that windows uses as ram. Anywho when u find the virtual memory, click the button to open the window. Now this is where u set the pagefile. Now I cant remember what it looks like so I will direct using Windows Xp instead...they should be very similar, im sure u can work it out.
The page file window will give hard drive room and recommendations for the amount of page-file to be set. Click on custom size. Put in the amount of megabytes u want for the page-file. WARNING, do not put in more than ur hard drive can handle! Windows recommends about 10% of how much hard drive room is availiable. So it depends on ur hard drive
1. It's capacity
2. How much room is left
With those guidelines u can set ur amount. After thats done, hit set, then ok, then clear the open windows and restart ur comp.

afaik the ? ? ? are supposed to be X Y Z coords, but it never seems to work
just go read up on the other post about this and reduce your 'dynamic lights' in whatever area the problem is in

btw, if you have any windows in your map, but you might want to make some of them opaque

That?s what I?m going to do... I?m going to split the map in two or three (shame... I did a clock thingy and I worked hard to make a good system (sucks, anyway)) and I?m sure this will solve the problem ?cos that problem appeared when I completed the whole map.

yes the ? ? ? is the coordinates of the problems but the compiler doesnt know or cant be stuffed to know where it is, i think hammer does this to make our lives hard :(
