I have been working on building a train out of brushes, and in this train, I put the poles that you normaly would find in a subway train. They're the poles you find in the props_trainstation models folder. Anyway, I put a light up outside of the train just so I could see what I was doing, but for some reason or an other, this light seems to be clipping through the brushes and casting a shadow into the interior of the train that I do not want!

I'm not sure why the shadows are casting at the same angle too... the light is not offset, its in the center and up. I coppied the props if that makes any difference.

Any help is appreciated :)

FIXED:
I'm an idiot, I found the "Disable Shadows" option in the prop's Properties. Any body know why it would do that though?

Do you have a light_env or shadow_control? These would affect shadowing direction.

Just use disable shadows and brushes made out of blocklight textures if you have weird shadowing issues with props.

I had no env_lights or shadow_controls in the map... weird :)

Is it normal for light to clip through brushes and cause models to cast shadows?

I really dont see what your talking about in the screenie. Looks normal.

I dont see any "clipping" from lights going through the brush geometry.....

well, I only put 1 light into the train, not in a position that would cause those train poles to cast shodows the way that they do. It's in the center, somewhat close to the center of the train with respect to the Y axis. Now look at the shadows, they cast at about an 80 degree angle in the same direction. The left one looks fine, but the right one is going in the wrong direction.

Regardless, I fixed the problem ;)
