Hello.

I want to "expand" HL single player game. I know my way around with source engine, but the HL1 with steam is quite confusing. I dont know how should i do the "mod".

Should i create new folder "myfirstmod" and then just start building the dlls? Most of the modding i have planned is done within the maps. Can i edit HL1 maps? How can i convert bsp to hammer files? I have so many questions, but i dont know where to start :)

I need to know, if i change HL1 maps, how can i tell HL to use MY modification not the original?

Im starter yes, but please, help me get started.

Where to start...

You can't just open up an original map and edit it, you would have to decompile the map using a program like WinBSP. But you see, you can't recompile a decompiled map without rebuilding all the brushwork, because decompiling screws the map up.

So basically, there's no way to easily do what you're looking to do, which is why nobody else has done anything like it before.

It sounds like you still have a lot to learn about the older HL1 engine before you start making your own mod... Heck, you don't even know how to set up a mod folder. Remember, start small first.

I do know how to setup folder. I have done little modificatios already. I have modified Hl1, but becouse those maps and sprites are not in my "mod" folder, i got confused. Now i know, where it looks for them, but at morning, i did not. Im not trying to anything big here. Just trying to get my hands dirty. Hmm.. So.. i cant edit those maps, ok. That makes things kinky. But but.. ill continue investicating.. I need to stick with hl1 now, becouse my laptop cant handle source :D

Dont mod HL1 with the Source SDK. that's just silly.

Download Hammer 3.5 from the links page, ZHLT from the links page, and read the beginner tutorials.
