Hi guys
well, i need a ton of backup on this one. some people i know say my pc is stuffed (system dumps, lock ups etc) because of mods (HL, etc). Can anyone give answers? I know they dont much the pc up but THEY dont. convince them its not MODS. (i dont get them off the net by the way so its not viruses.)

Erm, unless you're downloading the most dodgiest mods in existence (and I'm talking about the ones that disguise viruses as mods) then there's no chance that mods would be doing damage to your PC. The only thing they'd be doing that'd be potentially harmful is take up HDD space.

Describe in more detail what's wrong with your computer and we can help you out with your problems.

Well, when i start my pc up sometimes in the first few mins it may do a system dump, lock up or restart, even if its idle, i dont know whats up with it but everyone says it the mods.

Well, that's just BS. System dumps usually mean that something's pretty fucked up, so it's highly unlikely that it's the mods.

Google and download a little utility called "Motherboard Monitor". This will give you a temperature readout of your CPU so you can ascertain if your computer is overheating. If it is, open it, clean out the dust and install a case fan.

If it's not the case, Google and download another utility called "Memtest". This runs a stringent test on your RAM during startup to see if there's anything wrong with it.

Last of all, get all these programs:
Ad-Aware
Spybot: Search & Destroy
ZoneAlarm
AVG

This is my ideal range of security and protection programs. All quality software. You should also run msconfig (go to Start > Run > msconfig > Startup tab) and see what programs are running during startup. Check if there's any weird entries (Google is your friend).
A good old fashioned format can also be good to fully flush out any bad files.

How could everyone possibly say that the cause of the lock ups are mods? What mod did you download and make everybody think that way?

Beside of that=It could be a worm or a trojan. They are a bit hard to destroy. There is a possiblty that you have to destroy it manually or format the pc.Formatting the pc could take a while(sending the pc etc)But if you are using a laptop. They give format cd s with the laptop sometimes. So, if you have it-get your important files and format it.Thats the way what I mostly do.But not everyone would recommend.
