I just got a nice new Intel Core 2 Duo and I'd like to do some benchmarking to make sure everythings up to par with it (And the new DDR2 memory). There's a lot of programs out there though so I was just wondering if somone could recommend one, thanks :)

3DMark is the premier one for graphics. The new version of it has a dedicated CPU test as well, designed to give the new dual core CPUs a workout.

I think there's also one called PCMark or something similar (made from the same team). Google for 'em and check 'em out.

I think SuperPI is common, too.

Anyone here know their 3DMark test score? I should have done this on my old CPU to see the difference oh well

I had a perfect CPU test while compiling my map:
Old CPU: 1 hour for the (vis) part I think
New CPU: 30 minutes

Old CPU: 8 min for RAD
New CPU: 3 min for RAD

I'm thinking about overclocking them another 400 MHz but my power supply is struggling as it is so.. I might break it by doing that.. :zonked:

What can you possibly gain from overclocking it...
I might give this program a go myself.

I definately wouldn't use 3DMark for CPU tests, they are relatively new in that program, and aren't at all reliable. You should use Prime95, far more reliable, and aimed at CPU, & has excellent RAM tests as well. Perfect for your requirements. It also allows you to run seperate tests on each core, utilizing them properly - and has loads of setting relating to timings, ....etc. You should definately try it.

davideo: I think I got... 3800 or something? 3930 in '06. That's all stock clocks.

davideo: On the latest version, I got about 1500 3D Marks. Laptop, remember.

You sure that was the most recent? There was '05 and '06.

for general profromance get 06 and for CPU and RAM power superPi is awesome. (the speed you can do a 8 millionth place of pi run is standard)

eg, on a E6300 system with 2Gb of ram that I built under a month ago, it took one minute to do it (or close to a minute) with a slight OC

3DMark06 - 6739 (Overclocked CPU & GPU)

have you tried Prime95 yet?
