Only one of those images seems to want to load...:(
From the one screenshot and the descriptions it sounds quite good, I look forward to the story.

Hmmm - odd

Try, once you have logged onto this page clickign "stop" on your taskbar to stop downloading the pictures... Then right click on each picture individually and click on "Show Picture" - that should work.

If it doesnt, tell me and i shall re-host them

seems like slightly messy brushwork, but overall nicely done..

Missiles tend to be in underground silos, instead of standing open, but whatever :P

The top picture is the only one that will actually make it into my mod - the ICBMs where just a screenshot for the opening movie (glamorously put together on "MICROSOFT MOVIE MAKER") as is the picture of the chopper flying overhead (a test to see how mosters respond to each other - the Blk_ops chopper and the common apache both seem to like each other, and the original grunts and the blk op grunts seem to be allied as well...

Glad you enjoy - more coming soon!

PS - i was bored yesterday so i made an infinately long ladder using a trigger_teleport or whatever it is called !

PPS - Is it possible to have a map where the environment/lighting is ran by the source engine, but i have the models from teh HL1 and HL OP4 engine?
Posted 17 years ago2006-10-25 14:00:05 UTC Post #200799
Too bright, hot damn, I thought it was fullbright. The white helicopter is neat - pretty much everything else in the screenshot is fairly ugly. Mountains need work, everything looks boring and bland. The icicles from the rooftops is a good addition, though.
Posted 17 years ago2006-10-26 10:48:22 UTC Post #200930
Thanks Espen180 - Also - that bright pciture of the ICBMs is on fullbright - thus why it appears that way ;)

The level is blan for the primary reason due to there being a demosntration area (where you do not access normally) with a number of Trigger_cameras in it - this is the first level, and it starts off with a little intro movie of you getting dropped off in helicopter

There is going to be a 2.4 minute long intro movie of the osprey flying through numerous vallies and then finally landing on a large mountain - and my R_Speeds are on their limits - if i add much mor i will get a max_leaf face error or whatever it is called.

Below is a view of hte level (a different view)

Storyline is about 1000 words long - possibly longer - for the first of the five chapters alone (each chapter corresponds to a seperate Mod)

It is complex too - lots of politics/scientifictly accurate facts :D

The Learjet is a little bright too - but it was only a test - thus it doesnt matter :)

Thankyou very much :D

I temporarily stopped making my mod for about two months or so in hopes of testing out new effects/technologies (eg. i reskinned many if not all of the models - changed G-Mans hair style, and he now has a black Suit - Grunts (allies) have deser camo for the first mod - the enemy grunts wear full-armour suits, - ospreys have proper camoflage - (blue on bottom - green camo on top - as in real dropships)

Overally - it is looking good!

I agree with Hunter, ICBM's should be underground.
Also, the grey Osprey looks kinda small in the first screenshot, its like a toy to me. :P

Looking good though! :)

The ICBMs where just jsut a test when i first made the ICBM - and I took them for use i nthe opening movie (glamoursouly made iwht windows media player)

Also - thanks to numerous tests - if you ever need a plane - of any sort built - passenger/small/large/technulogically superior/obsolete/military - jsut send a photo, a name, and what you want me to put in it

THere is also a high polygon version of the TSR 2 - whereas teh glass in the cockpit is see-through, and the landing gear is out...

Thanks for your priase.

Also, that osprey is full sized, but i have zoomed out greatly to show you some of the surrounding base :) - all of it is part of the level though!

This should probably go in the "HL Problems" Forum, but it really isnt worth creating a new thread:

You know how in the "Sentance.txt" file, it says at the top "// HALF-LIFE SPEECH SYSTEM SENTENCES. DO NOT MODIFY THIS FILE! Max of 1023 sentences."

What happens if i exceed 1023 sentances?
Posted 17 years ago2006-11-11 10:45:22 UTC Post #202473
It won't read the sentences after the 1023 count, iirc.

Just delete the parts of the file your not going to use (i.e. the staff credits).

This is very good work. I can see you have put a lot of time and care into it all. I do have two problems though:

One of the mountain textures in the picture zoomed out with the osprey in it is misaligned and you can see where the brush edge is.

And also with that missile launcher truck, they dont fire all their missiles next to each other like that. One missiles gets completly out of the tube and a few feet in front and then the next one launches. They dont all fire at once like a shotgun, even though thats not what you have made they are still too close together. :)

This looks like it should be very enjoyable. Although some of the brush work could use some more work the vehicles are amazing and you can see you have already spent a lot of time on this, which is good. Keep it up :)

Hey Tycell, I allways research machines based on current technologies before mapping them, one of the joys of being an engineer :D

When firing guided munitions, a M270A1 LAUNCHER (British varient of the "Steel Reign" artillary used by US) upon which the "Tempest Class" is based upon. It can fire guided munitions, it can fire and tack up to four missiles simultaneusly, with about a 3 second delay between firing volleys.

With unguided munitions such as IFR Rockets, it can fire them in the follwoing combinations, 12, 6, 3, 2 simultaneously - or it can fire them sequencially with as little as a 0.2 second gap between fires - but you dont usually do this unless you are pounding the fuck out of an enemy position.

PS - the only reason I know this is because i have a friend who used to work in the British Army, and he manned a M270A1 Launcher in Iraq before being wounded in 2004 and sent home.

Also, "www.army-technology.com" is quite useful for getting statistics on machines of war, as are "www.airforce-technology.com" and "www.naval-technology"

Your profile says you model, from the looks of it, all of those vehicles are brushwork. It would be easier, probably nicer, and cheaper on HL to model them.

Still, to do them with brushwork is rather impressive. kudos

I would have done them with a model, but i couldnt get them to have any AI, and i really couldnt be bothered fiddling around with C++ coding just to get a firable turrer, so i decided to to model in with brushes...

Impressive stuff, especially the technical know-how behind it. :)

Any chance you're gonna get some grenade machineguns in there? That has always been one of the most impressive carried weapons I've heard of. :)

Oh, bytheway, perhaps you can use the following model. I created it once for a mod called Starlabs, but since it died, I never did anything with it. It's a Merkava main battle tank:

THATS BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!

Thankyou very much, Merkava MBT (Isreal), could make a valuable addition to the Allied Union Forces (Germany, France, Sweden, Most of the Arabic Regions, Vietnam, China, Japan, and a few other US-hating countries - a fictional union created for my mod)

While being utterly bored a while ago, i created the opening movie for my mod - im going to remake it of course, new stuff to add, new soundtrack (written by me, played by the school Jazz band, with me on the piano) and of course new screenshots :D:D:D)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yo0wtiZP6WE - if you wish to see it

Im going to remake it, ive since upgraded to Zoners compile tools, which has extended my texture memory threefold, so now those ICBMS sit in external (above ground) drop-fire launching platforms similar to those utilised in some Russian launch platforms for their "Energia" class heavy launch vehicles.

I also have a few more people to add to the credits, notably Pieter 'Captain P' Witvoet, and the school Jazz band. My dog has also been a source of inspiration, as my looking at him instigated the production of a half-track - picture enclosed below, the nose section is derived from "Ben", my dog.

PS - does anybody know where I can acquire a free program that records a movie of everything onscreen, i tried fraps, but the free version only records 30 second clips :(

Thankies!
Posted 17 years ago2007-01-06 19:08:36 UTC Post #208809
That's it for in-game recording programs, as far as I know. If you really need it, you could always... Acquire it... By means I can't speak of.... :)
Posted 17 years ago2007-01-06 19:11:05 UTC Post #208810
Oh, I do have my ways - MUAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAAA

Im going to end up using the free version of fraps...

The means that We cannot speak of would denote to major problems on my part - MUAHAHAHHAHA - problems that I cant simply put up with.

I feel that any more maniacal laughter on my part could get me slapped, so I shall stop now.

Any Ideas for improving my opening movie?
Posted 17 years ago2007-01-06 19:16:23 UTC Post #208811
Is that intro going to be done in-game? It's certainly possible, with the right entity setup, and it'd really be something cool and different than what you usually see in Half-Life mods. You could then combine it with in-game scripted sequences and such and it'd look great. Right now, it's a bit plain, and the spinning newspapers start to get old.

By the way, I'm really liking the idea of this mod, and the fact that the storyline is grounded in reality rather than using supernatural-type stuff to make it interesting.
Posted 17 years ago2007-01-06 19:23:13 UTC Post #208814
Actually, that movie, using the right programs to convert it into an AVI movie with the right formats, I can replace the Sierra or Valve intro movies that you see when starting up my Mod

I tried it out allready, and it certainly looks good

I figured im replace a number of "newspaper reports" with actual in-game footage, but i have the problem of there being a Fraps Watermark in the middle of the picture, but I can live with that, nothing a little editing wont remove :D

Yes, my mod is grounded in reality, and all the "zombies" and "aliens" you see in the original are in fact Genetically (and chromosomally) mutated humans, rodents, andimals, fish etc etc...

Just out of curiosity, when you make a map, do you ever make a sort of sketch or diagram, or outline even of what it is going to contain, or do you just blunder into it and let your imagination guide you through it?
Posted 17 years ago2007-01-06 19:30:35 UTC Post #208816
Yeah, you could easily remove it by making it into a fake letterboxed widescreen movie of sorts.

I'm not sure your idea about putting it in place of the intro movie is that great, since people with Steam won't be able to see it, and most people just activate mods in-game, rather than launching it from the provided icon.
Just out of curiosity, when you make a map, do you ever make a sort of sketch or diagram, or outline even of what it is going to contain, or do you just blunder into it and let your imagination guide you through it?
Both, actually. Sometimes I have a very good idea of what I want the whole map to look like, and I'll draw it all out. Other times I just have an idea for one room or area, and I'll build the whole map off that idea.

I find that a less planned-out approach will give you the most realistic results, because the map won't be straightforward like it is if built from beginning to end. As you've probably noticed, buildings in real life aren't usually laid out so you can go through it slowly until you eventually get to one place, but instead have interconnecting hallways/rooms/etc. for the easiest access to different areas. If you mix this with locked doors and other various things blocking your path, you can retain a realistic feeling while still having good gameplay.

Posted 17 years ago2007-01-22 14:22:15 UTC Post #210231
Fixed them. I don't know where you got the name A-10 Warthog from, im basing mine off the A-10 Thunderbolt.
Just for information, I took a glance at the MAP INFORMATION for my A10 :

Solids: 221
Faces: 1550

I have beveled every edge to make the A10 to perfect realism. My only problem i'm now facing would be the possibility of the HL1 engine simply committing suicide if I added another face. Iv'e already pushed the engine far enough.

However, I'm willing to keep it open for another week if you think you can get an entry in by then! :)
