Well I'm making a mod for half-life source, just single-player maps for it. :glad: and when I make an env_soundscape enity and create a soundscapes_(my maps name).txt and put the sound stuff in there, (like in the soundscapes tutorial) well none of them show up as a choice. just "nothing, automatic, automatic (dialog), indoors, and outdoors. How do you list custom soundscapes in there :nervous: ? Thanks for the help.

Type in the soundscape name, don't select anything from the list.

Bump!

I'm having an issue with the soundscapes tutorial. I have the soundscapes_mapnamehere.txt file made, but I have no idea where to put it; the tutorial doesn't say where. I tried it in half-life 2/hl2/scripts, as well as half-life 2/hl2/maps, and neither work. What am I doin' wrong?

Take a look at:

http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Soundscapes

It explains soundscapes quite well, where to put files, etc.

It goes in the half-life source scripts folder.
The soundscape text files are located in /scripts. If you open up the GCFs for whichever game you're mapping for (we'll say CS:S for clarity), you'll see 'em all in there.

He's trying to determine where the scripts folder should be. If no scripts have ever been loaded, there may not be a scripts folder.

If you don't have a scripts folder, create one as:

c:Program FilesValveSteamSteamApps[your logon]half-life 2hl2scripts

(I think. I don't have one, either)

I have put it in this folder to no avail. Initialy, I had simply coppied the soundscape straight from Snpbond's tutorial, but I decided to try different sound files (lest the ones he used were non-existant.) I used GCFScape to make sure I had the directory correct, and I did.

Does the Soundscape need to be triggered? Or will it be triggered when you walk into its proximity?
