I Pretty much always make my source files available with a map, I'm not really sure why, I just do. I notice that most people don't though, and I wonder if I shouldn't too.

Besides the obvious that if you're worried that someone will steal a trade secret in your map, or if you don't wan't people to easily clone your work, are there other reasons for not including source files with your map?

I usually include the .rmfs for SP maps (not mods).

I never include .rmfs with MP maps mostly to reduce the .zip size.

I don't think you need to worry about othre people stealing your maps. As long as you can prove that you released your map before someone else released the stolen version you'll be ok. Though you should probably include maps not rmfs because rmfs are usually much, much larger than maps.(The .map extention, that is)

Main reason: It would take longer to upload.

Besides, it's like if a movie studio released the 3dStudio models and SFX files they used to make a film inside the DVD. It's not essential to the enjoyment of the map.

But unlike movies, a big part of the people who download and play custom maps (especially SP) are map-makers themselves, or in some way involved with modding.

I dunno, I don't include the RMFs. If people want to look at the source files they could just ask.

There should be a spot on the site where everyone could dump their unfinished/unwanted RMFs... though that might waste a lot of space :D

If not space then bandwidth could be the problem :) .
