At the moment im trying to make a ship shape for my hl2dm map. When ever i try and carve half of a 16 sided sphere with a block my sdk simply closes down and i lose all my work. Does anyone know what i can do to sort this out? :zonked:

Don't carve with a 16 sided sphere! Even if it didn't crash hammer thats going to give you loads of points off the grid which will lead to a lot of other problems

Um first of all I don't map for source. Now like dragon fly said, don't carve things! Unless its a square carving ANOTHER square. Also try mapping for HL1 first (plus read some of HL1 tutorials) then move onto Source/HL2 to get the hang of things (basics) and to know what to do and what not to do. :D

I don't exactly think it's necessary to start with HL1, seeing as Source does the same exact things in some way or another. Plus, if you get too addicted to the HL1 entity system (like I have), it can be really hard to move over. Just as long as you limit yourself at first, it doesn't matter which engine you start with. One isn't dramatically harder than the other.
