I know each and every single TWHLer adores, respects, and plays Half life/ Goldsource engine. But honestly.. do you think the game is past its prime? Almost every single time i mention half life to someone they immediately start talking about HL2. It's like Half-Life is just becoming another statistic to the outside community.

Not sure if CS 1.6 counts as prime, though it is using the same engine.

(Don't mind Xfire's faggoty pink theme.)

The engine? Sure, why not. Just look at 1.6 up there still.

The game itself? It's time is long gone.

The general view (mapping, story, anything related)? I'd say it's its still there.

That is true. I think CS is one of the main reasons why Half life is so popular today. I played CS before i even knew it was the same engine as half life. then i found this site and my whole perspective changed.

My order was HL, CS 1.6, TFC, Opfor, Blueshift, DoD (all together, thanks dad) then HL2, then CS:S.

In regards to the rest of the thread, Half Life is far past it's prime as a game. The mapping community is a little past it's prime too, though still going strong.

HL, TFC, CS, Blueshift, OF.

How the hell did you go to source first, then back to 1.6?

I think Source is in its prime because its on the cutting edge of graphics and technology right now (p0rtal). Half-Life is still around because its easy to develope for and seems n00by compared to HL2 stuff compared to todays standards.

I got a case of that before where people thought I was mapping for source. In fact, I got bashed for using a Brush based editer and a BSP system. That was rather weird.

I don't think HL1 is in its prime as a game, but for the modding community its in its prime.

More or less, Valve is in its prime. If I could code, I would continue the spirit project and make it rival source tremendously, not in graphics, but in technology. Like more useful entities and a simple equation system so minipulating numbers is easy. So its a powerful tool for modding rather than for making maps with fancy crap. Thusly introducing the 6D vs. p0rtal complex.

Actually, the order I got my games in were:

CS 1.6
CS:S
HL2
HL
fail.
HL2
CS:S
HL
CS 1.6
fail.
My order was HL, CS 1.6, TFC, Opfor, Blueshift, DoD (all together, thanks dad) then HL2, then CS:S.
win.
