I created a masked texture (One of those blue background ones) called {Barbedwirecoil, but the blue shows up in game, even though it's rendermode solid fx amount 255. Can anyone help?

make sure that the pallet is correct: the last colour should be:

blue totally:
RGB 0 0 255

And index num 255

If it isn't palette entry #255, perhaps entering "amount palettenumber" will work. I presume so anyway.
