Welp, I made a custom model (which is essentially just a scientist but with only one animation - idle, so that I can use him as a cycler in my TFC map). Now I have some questions:

1) Where do I put the model? In my tfc/models folder? Because I know, from past experience, setting the directory as something like C:Program FilesValve Hammer Editormodelsidlescientist.mdl causes a "Path not found" error upon launching the map.

2) Is there a way to include the model in a single map file, or can others only acquire this model via people hosting the map - and the hosts themselves having the model in their tfc/models folder? (I know that models downloaded from custom maps go there, so that's the case for new players)

Should just have to go into the TFC/models folder.
and as for #2, when a person downloads the map from a server, they also download all necessary files automatically

when a person downloads the map from a server, they also download all necessary files automatically
only if the map has a .res file.

.res file? Do tell.

You create a .res file and place it with your map. Give it the same name as your map eg mymap.bsp --> mymap.res. Open it with notepad and write the location of every CUSTOM resource you use. Eg:

models/example.mdl
sound/noise.wav
sprites/bright.spr
maps/mymap.bsp
maps/readme.txt
a_wad.wad

Some people use these but it is much easier just to include the custom content with the map as the downloader will have play a game connected to a person who has all this custom content. So if I wanted to play your map with a friend we would need to connect to you to download the content first before we play. Alternatively, if you host a server playing this map they don't need to have the map themselves, the res file instructs their HL to download all files but this will extend connection times.

Hotdog - when you say "include the custom content with the map", do you mean hosting the map whilst you have the custom content in your models/, sprites/, etc. folders, or do you mean like distributing the map on the internet via a .zip file with the custom things included?
