how about we all do a mapping project together, say someone does the start then passes it on to the next person etc. I used to do this with TFC clan.

You're not the first to come up with that idea. I think people come up with it because they can't finish a map on their own or at least not a good one.

TWHLMix 2 was basically your idea but that has stopped...

I was thinking of a more express way of doing this.

Based on the layout compo, why don't we each do a room or two and piece it together?

A single room is easier to tackle and less likely to result in Failure...

Well.. ok who is going to run it then? we're gonna need a dimension limit of course.. Just for scaling.

Maybe someone wants to do the kitchen, or outdoor areas.. hallways...

We're also going to need a compile bitch, and someone to assemble all the parts and pieces.

OR.. we can make up a layout.. have people pick which area in the 'mansion' they want to live in, and just make it so the assembler doesn't have to choose.

I don't know.

But i'll start on mine i guess.

Don't go overboard with detail, and if you do, hint brush the room

Is it going to be a half-life map or a counter-strike (etc.) map?
Is it going to be a single-player or multi-player map?
If single-player, there is no need for a dimension limit.

I don't really see the purpose of a twhl mansion, it's not like the gameplay will be that leet. "omg another boring bedroom".

the only purpose of this would be two things:

Show off skill, and a group project.

Both can be accomplished better on their own by say, showing off your skill in a theme you choose, or joining a mod or teaming up to make a mini mod.

Well we also have to decide if is going to be a single-player map or a multi-player map.

Like invalid potato mentioned.

so just a straight mansion with rooms with single entrances is a no-go.
So like.. arena-type rooms reflecting the layout of one's personal living space which ties into game-play elements would be better.

The rooms have to flow into one another. probably minimizing the need for a single hallway/dead-end layout most people (well, me anyway) are imagining.

And... Goldsource or Source..

or the goldsource people can make one, and then the Source people can make one.

And then it'll be which source engine.. source. ep1 or ep2..

so. lots of deciding is mandatory before anyone does anything.

Ive seen many webs witch have done this before.
If we start anything like this, we need a layout and the game and details first.

otherwise well end up with lord of the rings, or in worst case, mashed potatoes. mmm...
