Its HL1 horror mod... and one of the bestest imho. Director's Cut version realy enchanced in maps/models/story/etc - so, if you enjoyed old "Afraid of monsters"(like me gigi) - its take you soul again ^_^.

Site: http://afraidofmonstersdc.moddb.com/

P.S. Try to play on "Hard" skill :sarcastic: - looks like it possible, couse i already in the middle of the game and alive (but my health most time in "1-25 hp" ).

Oh, so it's released is it. That's nice. I'll play it on Sunday I suppose. In the original one, I got up to the woods, and somehow lost interest in it. The combat and themes were a bit redundant, really.

Oh good, so I'm not the only one who disliked the original. Unless this 'Director's Cut' fixes the horrible texturing, useless lighting and unbalanced gameplay, I think I'll pass.

Well it fixes the texturing but not the lighting and gameplay so much.

Gameplay - author fix dificculty ("hard is hard, easy is aesy"), texturing & lightnin imho was normal in original game and better now. Anyway - its hardcore-survival-horror mod - not all people like this theme. Situations like "have no ammo/firepower to kill enemies - need to run" is normal here.

I got stuck shortly in when playing the original, but I'll give this a shot.
Posted 17 years ago2007-11-04 17:42:51 UTC Post #237636
Yeah... I'm not sure I really like the whole idea of being stuck in a room you can't get out of with five zombies and no ammo on you. In the original, it got to a point where it was just outright annoying, not even scary anymore. I just hope they threw some more ammo in. I'd rather have a tough enemy with a lot ammo on me than fairly weak enemies with no ammo at all.

Downloading it now.

I made a note of this in the ShoutBox last week, but it was spammed out of existence within an hour :|

I noticed, but you gave no link, and just said AOM, I thought you were talking about Age of Mythology and that REALLY fucking confused me... I just thought you were being an idiot... =P

Also, why do all mods have mediocre names? Well not all, but most?
Posted 17 years ago2007-11-05 04:46:35 UTC Post #237698
Wut? Fuck RTS, you should know better.

Mediocre name? Afraid of Monsters is one of the most original names I've heard in a while, in my own, humble opinion.

It's neither really bad, nor really good, in my opinion. "Attack of the bobblehead zombies!" Now there's a name!

I've instaled it and put the folder on my HL MODS at SteamApps/myaccount/ , where I have my Counter Strike, CSZ and CSZ Deleted Scenes and I cannot play it :S

screens are just too dark. and this is the only good one.

Spotlights can work to you're advantage brilliantly when doing horror lighting.
Likes so, and so.

I haven't played this mod yet. I got my own to work on anyhow, maybe later.

Rimrook - most time in game are realy dark, like this. Looks like its feature of this mod :).

By the way, for those who haven't started yet(or arne't far), do not trade out the p226 fr the glock. Its much more powerful. And don't trade out the shotgun for the mp5k either. You don't get enough ammo for it and it chews through the little ammo you do have like crazy.
Posted 17 years ago2007-11-05 14:00:21 UTC Post #237737
Espen, it was on the bed in the room where you hear the glass break and you go back and get out the window for the first time.
Posted 17 years ago2007-11-05 14:17:45 UTC Post #237738
World Crafter - in game there a 3-4 places were you can take shotgun again. On hard level its realy helps - shoot all ammo in uzi/mp5 and back to take shotgun or revert. And imho shotgun is not enough powerful for serious monsters - too slow reloading & low distance. But i like it shooting sound

Glock is fun(&useless) with alternate fire :D; anyway - it have 20 ammo clip & i cant see that p226 is powerful - same 3-5 shots to zombie head. Sorry for little spoilers

By Minuit:
Glock 18: Single shot and full auto secondary attack. Does 17 damage per shot in single fire mode. Has a vector cone of 2 degrees, meaning it is fairly accurate, but not perfect in single shot. Secondary attack does 13 damage per shot, has an inaccurate vector cone and punches the screen upward each shot.

Beretta: Has no secondary attack. Does 20 damage per shot, but only carries 15 per mag. Has a vector cone of 2 degrees always.

P228: Does 23 damage per shot. Has the smallest clip size (13) of the pistols, however. Has a vector cone of 2 degrees always.

O, thats good info! You right ^_^
Posted 17 years ago2007-11-05 15:01:16 UTC Post #237741
That pretty much settles it. So is the p228 the first pistol you get? Because I like it and now that I've read that I don't think I'll bother switching it out for anything.
Posted 17 years ago2007-11-05 15:14:25 UTC Post #237743
[GtB]Blitzkrieg - you cant get p226 again in the middle of the game 1 or 2 times. So, feel free to use that you like most :)

I don't know why but my HL low my FPS when I use the torch. On CS not, but on HL and Afraid of monsters is unplayable with switched on torch.
Posted 17 years ago2007-11-05 15:49:03 UTC Post #237747
torch = flashlight.

I've experienced this because the its a dynamic light. Lags in OpenGL but not Direct 3D for some reason.

lol ok, my dictionary says torch lol, but might be in UK.

how do I fix that flashlight bug/error?

I'd play Attack of the Bobbleheads.
That'd be wicked, just reskin the models for these and put them in different maps.

I played the original and the hospital is good, the woods were alright, but I hate the invisible monsters. Just because I like to see what I'm shooting at. I played through it again last week and used impulse 76 just because I like lots of people shooting at once.

Espen, check the custodial hallway.

Whatever hallway has the room that's filled with "no guns beyond this point" signs.
