im a major newb and i cant get my console to work....pressing ~ isnt doing it
iv searched everywhere cant find anything. anybody wanna tell me how to get it workin or give me a link to something that tells how?

Did u set it up properly? Did you go to the shortcut and set it up? If not this is how. Go to your start menu and find you Half-Life shortcut, possibly something like:
Start > All Programs > Sierra > Half-Life (For XP)
Start > Programs > Sierra > Half-Life (For the rest)
Right Click on the shortcut and go down to properties. Go to the shortcut tab. In the target, add this after the path:
-dev -console -numericping -particles 10000
It should now read something like:
C:SIERRAHalf-Lifehl.exe -dev -console -numericping -particles 10000
Click apply then ok.
Now try.
Make a map in Hammer, run it and see if you can bring down the console
Start > All Programs > Sierra > Half-Life (For XP)
Start > Programs > Sierra > Half-Life (For the rest)

don't worry bout -numericping or -particles 10000!!!

But if your mapping for Half-Life then put them in. If your trying to cheat in Half-Life dont put em in

I dont put in numericping or particles10000. I load them once I'm in the game if i need them.particles is good for finding leaks (which are nonexistant in my maps). Just use -dev -console and type in numericping and particles10000 when you need them! There are also more commands like that. For example, if you have a really laggy map, type r_speeds (or something like that, im not entirely sure cos I map for SP, not MP!) and it will show you the details and framerates and stuff. Oh, and also, when you have a leak, type in pointfile and particles10000 as that will lead you to the leak!

If you havent got the console even if you add -console try:
Open your Config.cfg in Notepad
Add a line saying: Bind KEY +toggleconsole
I thinketh that should do it :

No wait dont do that, i tried.
Instead add a line saying:

then press esc when you want it to go away

No, just open up config.cfg and change the line where it says bind key toggleconsole or whatever. It will probably say ~, but when I press ~, HL shuts down, so I changed it to `.

It's to do with keyboards and internationalism (lol). You pointed out to Windows that you don't have a yankee keyboard?
