Is Valve trying to take over the world?

So now anyone can start a gaming company. It's similar to Microsoft's strategy.

I think anything that encourages independent developers is a good thing.

Can't say that sounds like bad news. :P
Steamworks sounds awesome. Even if it's an obvious way for the Steam network to spread to a scale beyond imaginable, it's still very good news for any smaller gamedev company.

Steam is already the way to go for online PC games these days anyway. Back then it sucked, now it's awesome.
Besides, even if this didn't exist, other, big companies keep brinig their products to Steam anyway. So it's growing either way.
