I no longer can stand the search forums feild! IT FUCKIN' SUCKS!
And DOES NOT WORK!

I tried to search up screenshots of an old truck model I made. (The Black Mesa One)

So I tried these keywords:
Truck model Unbreakable

And got 110 results!

I then tried to narrow the search down because I beleive the thread was called 'my truck model'

so I tried these keywords
My Truck Model Unbreakable

It then gave me over 350 results! WTF!

And why did you guys take out the names of whomever posted the thread.. Now its just the name of the thread, and where its located, which makes it even harder to find...

Was this layout discussed with the members of twhl, because if so, then we're all fuckin' stupid...
How do you expect us to find shit now!?

Sorry Im cranky, its just that its the second time trying to find old work and cant.. Not to mention that I had a backup cd of all my greatest work, which was lost, and probably never to be found. FUCK! ..Sorry.

Sucks indeed. I recognize myself in that situation as well.
Searching through TWHL's old threads definitely could use some improvements.

At least make it so that we can view all the posts of each individual member.

I totally agree with you on this, Unb.

Me too, and I miss the "new maps" thing on the first page . Also , you could improve the BBC code's acting . It works like shit and it's always placed at the end of the post.

The_(c)Striker's reply is just terrible. First of all, it doesn't belong in this thread. Second, it's not constructive - "looks like shit" is not a description of the problem nor does it offer any solution. Third, it's vague - there's no such thing as BBC Code, nor do you explain what "it's always placed at the end of the post means". Please, LERN 2 FORUM.

As for the topic at hand, I'd wager it's a simple (or several) MySQL LIKE query(s) - probably very similar to that of the old TWHL. I've never written PHP search systems myself, but I'd guess getting anything more advanced is going to require lots of work.

I love you to .

BBC code doesn't exist ? ok ....

I suppose you never tried posting using the bbc code nor did you read my post saying "works" not "looks".

yeah... i suppose that the search could be fixed... it should just display anything with that name your searching for instead of a phrase inside the whole link lol... maybe add new tick boxed to select what options you want? like search in tutorials forums map vaults, search word / phrase in text and search inside title / inside link tick boxes?

i used the search less than 10 times. I always type specific things, in which its capable of finding, but it doesn't support quotations i think, which makes it a little difficult.

http://twhl.co.za/search.php?searchstring=%22Truck+Model%22&searchlocation=forumsnew

......middle result.

and cstriker, you'd notice that if you tried the BBCode buttons again, they would put the tags at the cursor, since I fixed it several days ago. Maps are returning to the front page very soon too, I'm just waiting for Ant to design it.

The search function performs a keyword search by default, so the more words you put in, the more results you get. This is the same as TWHL2. In addition, you can use quotes to perform a specific string quote. TWHL2 did NOT do this. I have only improved on the function. Furthermore, you can use Google's + and - to force words to be included or not, but I must admit that they are currently buggy, so don't rely on + and -.

Furthermore, TWHL never searched the username of the topic poster. It has always been the title of the thread, and the contents of the posts. I admit, the way some results are displayed isn't ideal, but I'm planning to fix this very soon, as well as an advanced search function.

the forum index is the same as the forum, just slightly faster. if you want to search recent forum posts, you can't use the index.

Was this the one?

I wish the search results would also show the thread author and include their name in the search, but I'm sure these issues have all been addressed in another thread.
