This is bothering the hell out of me and I have no idea what it is.

On my desktop, it seems to completely freeze up for a split second in 10 to 30 minute intervals. I have no idea what causes it and the all-knowing google is proving to be a bit elusive.

It's started doing it ever since I got Source and a wireless card. I've done defrags and error-check/fix and it still happens. It happens no matter what I'm doing, either the internet is on or off, same with steam. I've ran virus checks, and found nothing.

So, any insight?

EDIT: should mention that I have a more than capable power supply for my system.

It sounds like it might be a system memory problem. Just in case, check if your computer's ram sticks are tightly, secured in. Sometimes, one of them can come loose, and cause problems.

can a program with a memory leak also cause such a problem? i think it may have been Winamp.

Does the screen turn black sometimes?
Do you ever get any driver errors?

Do you get things like this, but more frequently, ingame as well?

How about not using Winamp for a week and see if it happens.

I highly recommend Foobar2000, anyways. Time to upgrade.

f2k > winamp > wmp

its never happened in-game and the screen doesn't go black. I did start not using winamp and I didn't have too much of a problem with it, but also, could heating also cause something like this? my comp ran awfully hot at the time and now i have measures of keeping it cooler.

getting Foobar2k anyway.

If its a heat issue, then more likely its your video card restarting the drivers to avoid heat damage.

Why the hell did you get Winamp in the first place?

Winamp is the most used multimedia program

I feel so inadequate with my shitty WMP 10 and nothing else :heartbreak:

In any case, if you have the spare parts lying around, Rim, try swapping out pieces of hardware and see if the issue persists so you can tell if it's hardware-related or not. That is, of course, if cooling it properly doesn't work. :crowbar:
