Those workstation video cards are always pricey. They're aimed at design programs like AutoCAD or modelling software like 3D studio. They aren't intended to run games and would probably run a game worse than a card 1/20th of the price.

Tito that's a workstation graphics card, that's a pretty average price for a good one. Drop one in a gaming rig though and it'll seem like you're playing on three year old equipment. They're built for the high-end 3D modeling in movies and such, they're not built to the same specs as the average consumer card.Oh I know, the Quadro line of cards is meant for heavy duty workstation use. It is probably the ones used by animation studios like Pixar. Now, some game studios might use them also to make the "pre-rendered CGI cut scenes" found on some of today's games. But for actually playing the games, yea, the other cheaper, regular graphic cards need to be used.

Of course, the item will still need to be in circulation, if it gets discontinue by it's manufacturer regardless if it sells or not, well......there wont be much Newegg will be able to do about it.

I accidentally bought 8 GB instead of just 4 GB. I am not going to return the extra memory. 8 GB should last a long time before the next upgrade.
Anyway, all the components arrived today except for the case, so I can only assemble some of the components:

I won't install the graphics card yet. The huge 260 will make it unwieldy to install the mobo into the case for sure.

Of course. Ignoring the sound and video cards would be a good option for now.
But, assuming the case will have the motherboard vertical, all you have to do is turn it on its side to make it easier to work on.

Yeah. I didnt have a problem getting my mobo in the case with the CPU and heat sync installed.
Now i just need my HD, Graphics card, and RAM.

Once I assembled my components, I realized that there is a slight problem.
With this Gigabyte mobo, this Arctic Freezer CPU cooler, and this G.Skill memory with the extra-tall heat spreader, the memory module nearest to the CPU is actually touching the CPU cooling fan.
I hope this won't pose a problem when everything is running. I don't want any noise or heat issue because the tight fit.

What about the DVD drive?.....What about the hard drive?.....What about the power source?.....And what about some of the cooling fans? You still will need the case to be able to connect all these up. No, I'm afraid the case is a mandatory item for the build. The only parts that can be truly optional and not needed are the graphics and sounds cards, since many mother boards out there are equipped with an onboard graphics and sound chip already. Of course, if you are making a gaming rig, then yea, you will need a good dedicated graphics card, and maybe a dedicated sound card too.

Hello? You can install a PSU, graphics card, DVD drives and HDD's without a case. Just rest them on a bench or something. And you don't need cooling fans (besides the case-independent CPU cooler) if there's no enclosure to blow air out of.
I don't recommend it though, just pointing out that Tito is completely misinformed on this matter. There are many "enthusiasts" out there that have computers laid out all over a desk instead of having a case.

Computer case or no computer case, in the end it's your call, satchmo. All I can suggest, is to choose what looks more practical for you to do. From what I can tell, that fan looks like it's replaceable. See if you can find a fan that's not as wide and is compatible with those clips and the motherboard's fan plug.
I don't know, though. Is it really pressing on the stick? If not, you should be fine. Unless it starts vibrating, then there could be a problem.
I guess you'll find out when you turn it on.

I see you already started building, but earlier i would have said for the money, considering you're still WAY under your original budget, i'd recommend a raid configuration for the HDD. This way, you never ever have to worry about backing up your stuff. ever.)

Windows XP doesn't detect (or use) more than 3.5GB of RAM, so installing more than that is useless unless you plan on running Vista or the 64-bit edition of XP.
So having more than 2x2GB sticks is pointless, because they'll sit there and never be used. So you can safely use the red slots. Problem solved

Oh yeah i forgot in my post to also recommend a xp/vista dual boot configuration. It's not crucial though i guess becuase you can upgrade to vista whenever you need or have to eventually.

Returning the extra memory will cost me money. I'd rather keep them.
I am running Vista 64, so all 8 GB of RAM can be used.
Newegg finally solved the Antec case problem. I should be receiving my case tomorrow.
They also gave me a discount. The original price of the Antec case was $140. I got it for $30. Pretty good deal!
