It's essentially a re-designed tri-core processor.

Damn, did you see the price for the 965 Extreme Edition?.....$999.00!!! SHIT THAT'S EXPENSIVE! For that price, you can get yourself a good, whole PC.

Heard about this a few months back. This new family of i7's will be pretty badass. Unfortunately, as Tito has already pointed out, so are the prices.

I hear that they may be bringing out a 8 core CPU by the start of 2009 in this family.

Quint core? Hell yeah. Now I can simoultaneously run not five but ten copies of Autocad with a detailed 3D plan of New York loaded and read my emails at the same time!

As for these i7s, aren't Quad Cores actually much cheaper? Why get 3 for a higher price?

Make sure to unfreeze all your layers to maximize cpu consumption

I think I will give that one a miss...you know, in times of economic recession I don't think a beefy CPU should take priority. :P

Hell no Jimmi! You must buy the most overpriced, uneeded CPU possible, then use it to play tetris only! Or read emails! Or something equally simple. That CPU consumption reading better be below 5% damnit!

The extreme edition is 1k, yes, but the others are around 400-600, I think.

Still, it's not the CPU you'll have to worry about, it's the other components to take advantage of such power. Such as fast enough (DDR3) RAM, a good motherboard, and a great graphics card.

It'll be a pretty penny.
