Came away from this years Xmas pretty well pleased.

Got me 4 new Xbox Games, a load of clothes, some gimmicky crap which is all pretty entertaining and a few DVD's. Then finally (as a suprise) another box appeared containing a new Dual Core AMD processor and a motherboard to sit it on. All I need now is a new Graphics card and I got the cash for that as well. :D

It appears non of you are particularly affected by the recession - lets just hope non of that was purchased on credit. ;)

Me:

Well, nothing really. Again, I'm aware of the economic situation, and I'm surprised you guys are spending?

Not spending will make the economy far worse. We're just doing our part.

Fortunatly my family and I all have jobs and careers in the right places. People still need to eat and pay bills. :)

Seriously though, this whole financial situation doesn't seem to have directly affected my income or spenditure in the slightest.

 Wish I could say the same. My dad was downsized at work, so all my Christmas gifts came from my relatives this year. $200 total isn't shabby in the slightest, though, especially being unemployed myself.

Even being a doctor is not immune to the effect of the economy.

I am working slightly less nowadays, but I am okay with that. It just means I get to stay home more on weekends.

But children still get sick, and they need me to make them better.

I am still sponsoring Newegg though. Not only did I buy a tons of parts from them for my new rig, but I am also getting my brother's birthday present next month from Newegg.

My Dad's job means the recession won't affect him that much. People will always need doctors, illnesses aren't affected by the economy

[Edit] Just saw Satchmo's post:
In Ireland, people tend to stay with what they know about rather than look around for lower prices.

I got an Acer 19" Widescreen. That's about it, and I'm totally pleased. The text is finally sharp, no more old-ass CRT blurtext.

That's funny, because on the occasion use my 19 inch Trinitron instead of my 19 inch widescreen, I think it's kind of refreshing. :P

Well yeah, but that's Sony, and this was a 10-year-old 15" Yakumo. The picture was blurry even at a ridiculously low resolution like 1024x768@75Hz. :\

Yes, I'm aware that the best way to improve the economy during a recession is to bring the capital back into circulation, but that does not help if you don't have any money anyway. My dad is an engineer, and engineers are one of the worst hit in the recession, because the demand for new designs and improvements is currently dead. He hasn't had a contract for months, so we are living off savings.

Didn't get anything either, but without the economic problems I wouldn't get much either anyway. My dad left my life so my mom works 24/7 to get food on the table for me and my brother. But I don't feel I'm one to whine, knowing there are people who can't even afford food.

My 24" LCD looks better than any CRT I've used. Well, that and it's 24" and a CRT that size would be a nightmare.

Nothing. We don't really do Christmas anymore, so I can hardly care.

Yeah, my Trinitron is only refreshing because it's got a different feel to it. It's not as crisp as my LCD, but I feel like it's got deeper, clearer colors.

....It's also starting to get a vague flicker, but that's what you get for five bucks at a thrift store.

As for presents, I already posted this in my journal, but it was mostly random little tools (not much happening in the land of computers for me). My dad got me this nice power sander that I had told him I needed for my truck, but decided against later. I took that back, got a nifty little testing guage, and pocketed twenty something. My mom said I could order a new mouse and she'd pay for it within reason.

I kinda don't care about christmas at all anymore, think it's kinda silly.

You've not used many good CRTs then I take it. A properly calibrated, decent CRT at a proper resolution and refresh rate will always produce better colors, contrast and response times than an LCD in the same price range. No input lag, perfect contrast, refresh rates that dwarf the mediocre 60Hz (or 120Hz, depending) of LCDs, as well as superior color reproduction.

I suppose with LCDs you don't really notice the awful refresh rate so much seeing as each TFT refreshes independently unlike with a CRT where the whole image refreshes at once, which is why they flicker at low refresh rates. I guess some people just prefer the in-your-face over-saturated-inaccurate-colors look of LCDs than the flat, correctly saturated tame look of CRTs. Personally I actually prefer a good LCD to an average CRT, but only with proper calibration and I'm a bit of a snob so it's IPS or MVA for me, not a big fan of TN panels with their overly-vibrant colors.

I hate shopping for LCDs, as I can never find one that combines low input lag with proper color reproduction within a reasonable price range, but I've found a few that come close to my high standards.

I got a pair of really comfy slippers, some underwear, candy, 2200 crowns (around 315 bucks) and a few other small things. I'm very satisfied with everything I got. :)

I see you translated "kronor" as "crowns". A common mistake.

It's not a mistake, it's what kronor is called abroad :P
