Is it possible to export models and geometry from tools like Sketchup or 3D Max into Hammer editor? If so, what would the methods/steps be in doing so?

Thanks in advance!

into brush based objects or mdl files?

I'll assume the latter as brush based models would be stupid, yes it's very possible, provided you look up some compiling tutorials, I have no idea bout that though.

Compiling models for Source is a little daunting if you haven't made custom textures before. You need to know about VMT's VTF's and when it comes to exporting the model, you need the actual model in .SMD format, the collision model if you want it and the animation model which you need for any model even if it isn't moving. It still needs an idle frame set to 1 that loops.

I can give you a few guides that helped me in the past:

Hope I understood you correctly.
